Job Summary

The San Diego County Medical Services Office

is currently seeking qualified candidates for:

Coordinator, Emergency Medical Services

The starting salary for this position will be based on the candidate's qualifications at time of appointment.

Emergency Medical Services Office:

San Diego County EMS Office is responsible for working with hospital systems, fire and ambulance agencies, public health providers, and other stakeholders to ensure county residents and visitors have access to superior patient care in the prehospital and emergency medical systems. The EMS Office oversees planning, implementing, evaluating, and continually improving local EMS systems including prehospital services and relevant hospital services, such as trauma and pediatrics.

The EMS Office employs program teams such as: Prehospital Standards, Community Paramedicine, Clinical Programs, EMS Administration, and Epidemiology and Surveillance.

Ideal Candidate:

• Motivated to apply their knowledge, skills, and education to improve patient care in the prehospital field
• Experience in EMS or related emergency health care administration
• Current California licensure at the Registered Nurse or Paramedic level
• Recent clinical or administrative experience related to the delivery of EMS, Emergency Department, or immediately related fields
• Ability to build strong relationships with all stakeholders
• Experience with developing or applying regulations or other compliance standards

Work Schedule: The selected candidate may have a hybrid schedule consisting of a blend of working remotely via teleworking; and working on site at the County Fire-EMS office.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Possession of a bachelors degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency, AND two (2) years of professional administrative experience in planning, implementing and monitoring an EMS or disaster medical program; OR,
• Six (6) years of professional administrative experience in planning, implementing and monitoring an EMS or disaster medical services program which could include experience as an administrator in a public agency, public or private ambulance service, hospital emergency department manager or EMS agency coordinator.

Note: Experience as described above may substitute for the education requirement on a year for year basis. To be considered, college level coursework must demonstrate progress toward a degree.

License:

For Specialty Care Systems Option: A valid CA Registered Nurse license is highly desirable.

Positions may involve necessary and timely transportation for field travel, requiring the ability to arrange transportation to different worksites, meetings, or field work.

Certification/Registration:

It is anticipated the successful candidate maintains the following relevant certifications for all EMS Programs and Prehospital Operations assignments:

• All candidates must hold or obtain CPR for Healthcare Providers, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within one year of appointment.
• California licensed Paramedics must hold or obtain San Diego County Paramedic Accreditation and/or an EMSA-approved Community Paramedic credential within one year of appointment.
• California licensed Registered Nurses must hold or obtain Mobile Intensive Care Nurse (MICN), Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN), or Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) certification credentials within one year of appointment.
