Building Automation Controls Engineers create unique design solutions to meet specific customer requirements for commercial building automation systems in new and existing facilities. Building Automation Design Engineers also make recommendations for productivity improvements and cost reductions to increase customer satisfaction and job profitability.
As a Building Automation Controls Engineer, You Will
- Understand project requirements and design building automation solutions for data centers, hospitals, pharmaceutical facilities, high-rise buildings, and lab facilities.
- Demonstrate expertise in engineering and contracting processes, with a strong grasp of submittal requirements and documentation standards essential for project success.
- Perform engineering site surveys to gather as-built documentation, verify existing conditions, and identify potential challenges.
- Attend internal and external meetings to support potential opportunities and contribute technical details to project designs. Meetings can be held at project sites, contractor offices, and/or Siemens area offices.
- Prepare design documents, including:
- Mechanical system layouts
- Electrical drawings
- System integration
- Bills of Materials
- Sequences of operations
- Valve and damper schedules
- DDC panel layouts
- Design building automation network architecture to support operator workstations, DDC field panels, and third-party integration devices connected through Modbus, Siemens APOGEE, Desigo, or BACnet.
- Analyze plans, construction contract specifications, and codes to determine project requirements and risks.
- Design building and space pressurization solutions, chiller and boiler plant sequencing control, and related systems.
- Prepare engineering re-estimates and follow up with appropriate sales and management to ensure understanding of and satisfaction with job scope.
- Perform quality assurance and peer-review engineering documents.
Basic Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree.
- 5+ years of experience in building automation (HVAC controls) design.
- Ability to travel up to 35%.
- Occasional travel will be required for important team gatherings, project kick-offs, strategic discussions, or training.
- Demonstrated ability to design large and complex jobs with some deviation using standard tools, products, and practices.
- Demonstrated knowledge of industry engineering fundamentals and business operations.
- Demonstrated proficiency in engineering design software or drafting tools such as AutoCAD.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship.

- 7+ years of building automation (HVAC controls) design experience.
