JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Billing and Payment Posting Supervisor, the Billing Representative is a key member of the Revenue Cycle team responsible for billing all insurance claims in a timely and accurate manner.
SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday 6am-230pm
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Transmits insurance claims electronically. Confirms that all claims submitted electronically are received and acknowledged by respective payers.
- Prints and mails insurance claims, ensuring that required documentation and attachments are included.
- Corrects billing edits and errors prior to claim submission.
- Researches and corrects initial billing rejections received from payers.
- Escalates difficult or recurring issues to immediate supervisor.
- Demonstrates good judgment in safeguarding OSS information to include confidentiality of all medical and patient information.
- Follows all policies and procedures of OSS.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or GED required OR 5 years of work experience required.
- An associate degree from a Medical Billing program is preferred.
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 5 years of experience in medical billing for a Hospital/Surgical Billing.
- CMS Billing Guidelines, FISS experience, and an understanding of Overlapping Claims.
- Coding certified preferred
- Must have a high attention to detail and possess excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills.
- Must have a working understanding of hospital and/or physician claim requirements for Medicare, Medicaid, and Private health insurance
- Must be able to prioritize duties and communicate directly with insurance companies, patients, physicians, co-workers and .
- Must be a team player and willing to work with all staff to get the overall job accomplished. Must maintain a cooperative working relationship with all and handle difficult situations tactfully.
- Experience with Medent or CPSI software preferred.
- Must have the ability to review and understand written material pertaining to orthopaedics and health care, including terminology and reimbursement issues.
