The Goal

OpenBet is looking for an Application Support Engineer to fill in an exciting role focusing on supporting, debugging and improving the functionality and performance of applications and systems running on high availability production environments. As an Application Support Engineer with us, you’ll have exposure to these systems and more, as you take our products and your career to the next level.

 

What you will be doing:

• Owning and investigating a wide variety of production issues at both an application and database level;
• Producing robust, well-written solutions for production issues;
• Effectively communicating investigation status to the customer;
• Deployment of fixes to production environments;
• Escalate to senior team members as appropriate to resolve issues;
• Participate in a rota schedule which includes working on weekends and bank holidays.

The Player

• A bachelor’s degree in a traditional science subject, ideally computer science, engineering or information systems from a well-regarded university;
• Minimum 6 months of hands-on experience in at least one major language (Java, J2EE, C, C++, Python, PHP, etc.) and SQL queries;
• Strong fundamental programming skills (data structures, algorithms);
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills;
• Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken;
• Ability to learn and be productive with new technologies quickly.

 

The ideal candidate would also have the following skills/experiences:

• Familiarity with any Unix/Linux distributions (e.g. Ubuntu, SUSE, etc.), commands and bash shell;
• Basic knowledge of performance monitoring tools (Grafana, Datadog, Squadcast etc.);
• Basic knowledge of LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) website design;
• Besic knowledge of Web technologies (HTML, HTML5 and CSS) and internet protocols (XML, HTTP, TCP/IP);
• Familiarity with any version control systems (GIT, Subversion, CVS, etc.);
• Basic knowledge of scripting languages such as Perl, Python, JavaScript;
• Familiarity with Jira ticketing system.
