The AVP Tax Compliance will manage all aspects of Company's US Federal, State, and Canada to ensure compliance with tax laws and state regulations. This role will interact with senior tax and accounting leaders of the organization and be the liaison with multiple levels of management and staff to coordinate the flow of information between various functions. They will be the assist the VP in evaluating the technical merits of internally and externally developed tax strategies, identifying issues and opportunities, and presenting conclusions and recommendations both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

About the role:

  • Review all federal and state estimates and provisions for accuracy and completeness 
  • Review all cash tax calculations related to federal, state, and Canada to ensure timely processing 
  • Review Federal, State, and Canada tax filings for completeness and technical accuracy including proper elections and disclosures 
  • Review and document uncertain tax positions affecting the US and Canada tax provisions 
  • Provide strategic direction and tactical support on tax matters 
  • Develop strong working relationships with business, finance, and tax leaders across the organization within GMF and GM to collaborate on significant tax matters affecting the Company’s operations inside the U.S. and Canada 
  • Actively engage in quarterly financial reporting processes and advise on the impact of federal and state transactions on the global tax provision 
  • Monitor significant tax legislation and developments and advise of the impact on the Company’s taxes 
  • Develop and provide direction on tax policies and processes to help foster a strong control and governance environment within the tax function

Qualifications

What makes you an ideal candidate:

  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 
  • Auto Finance knowledge a plus 
  • Intermediate or Advanced knowledge of tax research tools such as BNA or equivalent tools 
  • Advanced knowledge of US Federal, US International and State taxation 
  • Knowledge of GAAP for income taxes
  • Ability to work in a flexible hybrid work environment 
  • Able to distill complex data and concepts into key components and communicate them clearly both verbally 
  • Ability to prioritize, shift focus among multiple projects, and meet deadlines 
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with business and functional leaders across the company 
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment 
  • Strong tax research and analytical skills with proven ability to solve multidimensional problems creatively 
  • Ability to clearly communicate recommendations based on risk analysis for existing and new business initiatives.
  • CPA Certified Public Accountant Pref 
     

Work Experience 
7-10 years of tax experience with a high paced environment (at least 5 of these year with experience in tax compliance) Req 
5-7 years management and/or leadership experience Req 
 

Education 
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting preferred or related work experience Required 
Master’s Degree in Taxation Preferred
