Job Description:

The State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA) is looking for Actuarial Analysts to join our team in March 2027!

This is an exciting opportunity to work in our State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA) who regulates three statutory insurance schemes in NSW. This role sits in our newly established Actuarial Services team, where you will have the opportunity to build actuarial processes and help establish the team culture and ways of working.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Seek out and apply knowledge of scheme operations, data and key performance measures to support the monitoring, analysis and reporting of scheme and insurer performance
  • Develop and apply coding, modelling and analytical skills to investigate trends, test results and support evidence-based conclusions with guidance.
  • Build and maintain analyses and models that are accurate, structured, repeatable and appropriately documented, performing thorough self-checks to ensure quality
  • Support assurance and review activities by preparing analysis, checking inputs and outputs, documenting methods and assumptions, and responding constructively to review feedback.
  • Produce clear and concise reports, presentations and emails, and communicate technical findings effectively to team members and stakeholders with guidance.
  • Take accountability for managing assigned work, delivering agreed outcomes within specified timeframes and escalating risks or issues early.
  • Build knowledge of relevant legislation, actuarial requirements, professional standards and external industry developments and emerging issues impacting the schemes; recognise the importance of developing an industry network; and suggest opportunities to improve analytical processes while responsibly using available AI tools.
  • Build positive working relationships within the actuarial team, respond effectively to stakeholder requests with guidance, and contribute to a collaborative, inclusive and continuously learning team culture.

About you:

  • You are motivated by purpose and keen to apply your actuarial and analytical skills to support the long‑term sustainability and effective stewardship of insurance schemes that make a real difference in people's lives.
  • You enjoy using data to explore emerging risks, understanding performance drivers and helping build a clearer evidence base for decision‑making.
  • You take pride in producing work that others can trust by building analysis and models that are transparent, well‑documented and able to stand up to scrutiny.
  • You are curious about how legislation, scheme design and insurer behaviour interact, and are motivated to deepen your understanding of the regulatory environment over time.
  • You can balance analytical rigour with delivery timeframes, managing your work effectively while maintaining quality in a stakeholder‑driven environment.
  • You have experience with analytics and data tools such as R, Python and SQL.
  • You have, or expect to have prior to March 2027, tertiary qualification in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or related field that satisfies the Foundational Program of the Actuaries Institute and currently anticipate continuing progressing through the Actuary Program and Fellowship Program.

If you want to be part of this newly established, forward thinking, innovative team that thrive in challenging the status quo, we would love to hear from you!
