About the Role
Title: Portfolio Coordinator
Location: Schaumburg United States
Job Description:
Zurich North America is currently hiring a Portfolio Coordinator working out of our Schumburg, IL headquarters. This role supports operational management of the IT portfolio and IT project governance.
Key Accountabilities
- Support and ultimate administrator of portfolio management tool, Planview, includes configuration management, organization structure alignment, project financial alignment, proper start of the year and end of the year activities and local liaison with Group and vendor
- Comply with governance guidelines to ensure IT project adherence, includes project phases of funding submission requests through closure in accordance with the Zurich Project Management Framework and the Zurich Risk Policy.
- Lead, manage and successfully deliver monthly activities of open and active IT projects, includes, but not limited to month close advance preparation, support portfolio managers and project leaders during the status reporting timeframe, generate and deliver leadership material
- Recognize and make appropriate recommendations to apply different funding approaches (project, product)
- Support the sponsor, project lead and portfolio manager in the setup of the project including a clearly defined business case and cost benefit analysis, engaging relevant stakeholders, all to ensure project approval and kick off success.
- Ensure project artifacts are appropriate and stored according to governance adherence.
- Ensure timely and appropriate planning, collection, creation, distribution, storage, retrieval, management, control, monitoring, and the ultimate disposal of project information to enable effective decision making and ensure successful project outcomes.
- Support risk management planning, identification, analysis, response planning, and controlling risk on a project to increase the likelihood and impact of positive events, and decrease the likelihood and impact of negative events in the project.
Additional Job Functions
- Operational excellence with a continuous improvement mindset promoting efficiency of governance operations, including portfolio management and project management
- Based on the need of the project, support internal and external relationships with Group PMO, business partners and suppliers as required.
- Provide portfolio management, along with project coordinator duties for projects typically below USD 1 million, as needed
- Perform and anticipate support needs related to portfolio management and project management to initiate, plan, execute, monitor and control as well as close a project in accordance with the Zurich Project Management Framework and the Zurich Risk Policy.
Business Accountabilities
- Utilize established financial systems with consideration to improve the tracking key project metrics such as budgets and schedules and highlight variances in order to manage and control specific project variables
- Support the risk assessment of the execution of change projects, reporting to sponsor/steering committees in order to achieve project execution.
- Build relationships with line managers across a portfolio to deliver business change projects in assigned areas of the business
Performance Management Accountabilities
- Model behaviors that demonstrate commitment to corporate values.
- Provide input into performance management discussions of project team members.
- Educate team members and business partners on area of technical expertise.
- Provide guidance and support for team members.
- Take action to manage own personal development and encourage others to do the same
Required
- Bachelors Degree and 2 or more years of experience in insurance or business operations
OR
- High School Diploma or equivalent and 4 or more years of experience in the insurance or business operations
OR
- Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 2 or more years of experience in the insurance or business operations area
AND
- Project management experience
- Experience in preparing and delivering presentations
Preferred:
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and Sharepoint tools
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Strong technical aptitude
- Strong team building skills
- Experience in P&C insurance, Financial Services
- Project Management Institute Project Management Professional certification (PMP)
- SQL and/or PowerBI a plus

Additional rewards may encompass short-term incentive bonuses and merit increases. We encourage candidates with salary expectations beyond the provided range to apply, as they will be considered based on their experience, skills, and education. The salary indicated represents a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for geographic differentials pertaining to the location where the position may be filled. The proposed salary range for this position is $58,740 - $96,250, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 10%.
