Job Description:
The University of Iowa's Tippie College of Business seeks a Marketing Writer to join the Collegiate Marketing Team. If you're a creative storyteller, a skilled and imaginative wordsmith, and have a passion for making education accessible to all - then we want to talk to you. We're a team of technologically progressive, passionate brand advocates who use data to drive our decisions, including content development. Your mission is to create messages that inspire and guide the next generation of business professionals through every phase of their journey - from research to application to graduation to career development.
We're looking for a well-rounded writer who can help us truly deliver on our vision to create content across multiple channels via research-based blogs and articles, student stories, print and digital advertising, and marketing emails.

- You believe great copy demands great care. You aren't afraid to polish every line until it shines - and can iterate quickly to keep projects moving.
- You create content that meets people where they are in their journey and adapt your delivery based on how and when they're consuming your content.
- You know the value of using data to identify content opportunities and fill in the gaps with timely, relevant messages.
You get brand
- You're able to write in a brand's unique voice.
- You can strike the right balance between copy that informs and entertains, but also converts.
- You can develop creative concepts that both represent the brand and push it forward.
The web is your wheelhouse
- You're familiar with Search Engine Optimization best practices and how to write for them.
- You have experience writing website copy and blog content.
- You understand information architecture and content hierarchy.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND SPECIFIC JOB TASKS
Writing/Communication Content
- Develop and write strategic content marketing pieces such as research-based articles, informative blog/newsletter posts, infographics, and interview write-ups.
- Help achieve branding and enrollment goals via relevant, timely messages.
- Create content that is in sync with buyer journey and personas, using clear calls-to-action that advance the audience further along in their decision-making process.
- Develop a deep understanding of Tippie's programs to help identify and fill content gaps based on audience needs.
- Adhere to Tippie's brand voice and tone.
- Brainstorm and collaborate with the marketing team on new ideas and strategies.
- Help develop and adhere to a content calendar.
- Collaborate with the communications team to both advise and distribute their content across marketing platforms
- Produce copy for other materials as needed.
Editing/Proofing
- Edit, proofread, and fact check all content.
Research/Information Gathering
- Research and monitor emerging trends and best practices in higher education marketing.

Remote within Iowa: This position is eligible for remote work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.
Salary: $45,000-$50,000
Education Requirement
- Bachelor's Degree preferably in English, Journalism, Marketing, Communications, Advertising, or a closely related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Qualifications
- At least one year of relevant marketing writing experience.
- Creativity and ability to tailor the style of writing to reflect the audience.
- A keen eye for detail, with excellent spelling, grammar and punctuation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage time, concurrently working on multiple projects.
- Knowledge of the importance of adhering to a style guide and brand standards.
- Solid understanding of how design and copy work together.
- Experience interviewing sources and extracting interesting stories.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working in higher education.
- Track record of using research and data to help bolster creative decisions.
- Ability to produce high-quality work under a deadline, while remaining positive amid constructive feedback.
