Job Description:

Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Online Course Content Accessibility Specialist reviews content for new online courses to ensure it abides by university accessibility policies and Section 508/WCAG standards, as well as copyright compliance. This position also provides faculty with consultations and assistance to meet applicable university policies and federal guidelines.

This position may have the opportunity to work remotely, where all work is performed from an alternative work location either within or outside the state of Idaho.

Candidates in this role must be able to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm (Mountain Time), providing real-time scheduling support through Zoom, chat, and email while also completing assigned duties based on priorities.

This position is not eligible for VISA Sponsorship.

The Boise State eCampus Center is dedicated to expanding online degrees and classes beyond the traditional boundaries to meet the academic needs of students anytime and anywhere. We partner with faculty, departments and leadership to create a high-quality online learning environment for students at Boise State and around the world. This position will contribute to creating high-quality media for online courses and fully online programs.

Level Scope:

Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees.

Essential Functions:

● Provide reviews of existing online courses for accessibility and copyright compliance, as well as other university policies and standards. Consult with faculty, IDCs, programs, and academic departments on the results of the review.

● Vet content used in online courses for compliance with accessibility and copyright policies of the university:

Provide accessibility and copyright feedback to the Development and Support Team, Instructional Design Consultants, and Faculty Developers on media used in online courses.

Review, document, and manage copyright and accessibility compliance of all media content used in online courses.

Provide training to eCampus Center staff on copyright and accessibility topics.

● Monitor, track, and manage the captioning process for the eCampus Center. Coordinate with others across campus to ensure we are following accepted best practices for captioning.

● In collaboration with the Development and Support Team, document and continuously improve vetting workflows.

● Develop and maintain positive, collaborative, respect-based relationships with co-workers, clients, and stakeholders within and outside of Boise State.

● Provide effective customer service and actively listen and appropriately respond to colleagues, stakeholders, and supervisor needs/requests.

● Work with OER Coordinator to create or modify OER content for accessibility.

● Provide training and best practices to the Development and Support team, Instructional Design team, and to faculty who are developing online courses.

● Document and continuously improve accessibility and vetting workflows in support of the Course Design and Development process.

● May perform other duties as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

● Working knowledge of accessibility standards.

● Excellent customer service, consultation, training and presentation skills.

● Excellent written and oral communication skills.

● Excellent attention to detail.

● Ability to communicate with people from a wide variety of backgrounds, each having unique life experiences.

● Ability to quickly learn and transfer skills in software and LMS systems, as well as be able to train others.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

● Master's degree from an accredited institution in a closely related field or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the area of assignment.

● 2 Years of working knowledge of copyright and fair use as it applies to educational materials and online master courses:

● Working knowledge of applying ADA Section 508 Standards and WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards for accessibility.

● Working knowledge of accessibility mitigation with common office productivity software apps.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary starts at $56,000/yr, and is commensurate with experience. Boise State University provides a best-in-class benefits package, including (but not limited to):
