Job Description:
The Assistant Professor of Family Science is a tenure-track faculty position within the Department of Nutrition, Hospitality & Human Services. This role is responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in Family Science in both face-to-face and online formats, with an emphasis on developing and delivering high-quality instruction aligned with program and accreditation standards. The position supports student success through academic advising and mentorship while maintaining an active research and scholarly agenda. The faculty member contributes to departmental, college, and university service, engages in interdisciplinary collaboration, and provides outreach to the profession and community.
Essential Job Functions
Teaching and Course Development:

Provide instruction as assigned in Family Science courses across the academic year in multiple modalities, including in-person and online.

Develop and revise online courses using the Quality Matters review process and update on-campus courses using best teaching practices for the discipline.

Develop, implement, and monitor student performance outcomes through ongoing assessment.
-
Hold regular office hours and maintain campus presence to ensure accessibility and engagement with students.
Research and Scholarly Productivity:
-
Maintain an active research agenda with dissemination of findings through scholarly publications and presentations.

Collaborate with faculty in research, outreach, and pursuit of external funding opportunities.
Service:
-
Advise undergraduate students in the family science program.
-
Serve on Departmental, College, and University committees.
-
Provide service to the community and to the family science profession.
-
Perform other departmental and program duties as assigned.

Collaborate with other departments and units across campus to strengthen interdisciplinary initiatives.

Engage in community outreach aligned with program and university goals.
Minimum and Desired Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Doctoral Degree or ABD in Family Science, Human Services, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
-
Strong interest and proven competence in research and scholarship.
-
Demonstrated ability or potential for high quality research and teaching are important.
-
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills needed to work with various students, staff, faculty, and administration.

Commitment to create and sustain a culture of student support and success.
-
Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative and innovative environment.
-
Active involvement in professional organizations within the field of specialty.
Desired Qualifications:
- Research experience withdemonstratedscholarship via first-authoredpublications
- Teaching experience at the College or University level with experience in curriculum development and course designutilizingthe Quality Matters process.
- Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE) preferred, with active membership in NCFR.
Supplemental Information
Key Competencies:

The ability to translate knowledge into essential practice skills for entry-level nutritionists and registered dietitian nutritionists.
