Title: Web Content Specialist

Job Description: 

The University of Maryland School of Graduate Studies (UMSGS) has an opportunity for a Web Content Specialist to join its marketing and communications team. Reporting to the Director of Communications, this position is responsible for maintaining, updating, and improving content across the school’s website and related digital platforms, and ensuring all information is accurate, accessible, and aligned with the school’s communications and marketing strategy. 

This is a full-time, hybrid position requiring an on-campus presence at the University of Maryland, Baltimore campus three days per week.

Primary Duties

  • Act as the primary liaison for the UMSGS website.
    Assist with web content including writing, editing, and proofreading content to be clear, engaging, and in alignment with the school’s brand and strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with staff and subject matter experts to gather and refine content.
  • Update, organize, and publish content using the TerminalFour (T4) CMS.
  • Apply SEO best practices to improve content visibility and performance.
  • Ensure all digital content adheres to web accessibility guidelines (WCAG).
  • Conduct regular quality assurance reviews to identify and resolve outdated information, broken links, and other issues.
  • Contribute to content mapping, information architecture updates, and UX improvements.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of a web governance structure.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of content on internal digital tools such as SharePoint, Teams, and the academic catalog.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in public relations, computer science, communications, marketing, journalism, business administration or closely related field.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in communications, journalism, technical writing, marketing, or web development. Proficiency with content management systems (CMS), familiarity with Google Analytics, and working knowledge of SEO and WCAG/W3C accessibility standards is preferred.
Other: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong web writing, editing, and proofreading skills. Knowledge of position requirements. Knowledge of all applicable requirements, regulations, and laws. Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently. Hiring Range: $61,000 - $69,000, commensurate with education and experience.
