Job Description:

We are looking for a Team Leader Software Engineering to join our Garmin Connect team in our Cluj-Napoca office.

Garmin Connect Mobile is our best known, Fitness and Outdoor power-house companion app catering to over 20 million active users and supporting an ever-growing number of compatible Garmin devices (around 150 at this point). The feature set is very rich and targets our complex user base with running, cycling, wellness, training, smartwatch, golfing, diving, and even pregnancy tracking feature.

As a Team Leader, you will be directing and coordinating software development activities within Garmin Connect teams. You will directly supervise mobile software engineers, oversee training and career development for all your team members and address team problems.

We believe that collaboration leads to the best ideas, and we rely heavily on team interaction. As a hybrid role based in Cluj-Napoca, this position will require at least 3 days in the office each week.

Essential job functions:

  • Responsible for driving, coordinating, supervising and facilitating the work processes of mobile/backend engineering teams.
  • Active leading or delegation the solution creation, effort estimation, development, and project implementation.
  • Create, maintain, improve and provide needed resources to enable team members to do their work.
  • Ensure efficient inter-team communication and disseminate information coming from outside the group.
  • Demonstrate a broad understanding of Garmin's business model, including operations, production, sales and marketing.

Requirements

Technical:

  • Strong background in native mobile development with experience in Android, iOS, or both platforms.
  • Proficiency in Swift, SwiftUI, UIKit for iOS development, or Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, for Android development.
  • Experience with releasing and managing applications on the App Store and/or Google Play.
  • Perform and plan major version upgrades of software and hardware while complying with change control best practices.
  • Collaborate and add value through participation in peer code reviews, providing comments and suggestions.
  • Create and maintain programs and scripts and automate routine tasks where possible.
  • Ability to prioritize among many competing business initiatives.
  • Provide reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem-solving techniques.
  • 5+ years of technical work experience.
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or in a technical field relevant to the essential functions of this job description.

Leadership skills:

  • Proven experience in performance evaluation of team members.
  • Ability to set SMART objectives for each team member that align with the team and organizational goals.
  • Demonstrate mentoring experience in helping team members tailor their careers.
  • Focus on efficient time and resource management.
  • Demonstrate strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Skilled in feedback delivery for team members.
  • Able to negotiate different aspect of product delivery with team members and stakeholders.
  • Excellent English speaking and writing skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in leading teams of 4+ people.
  • Strong initiative to find ways to improve solutions, systems, and processes.
  • Solid abilities in organizing, planning, and prioritizing team-work.
  • Adaptable, proactive and passionate about technology & innovation.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of leadership experience.

Would be a plus:

  • Experience with the Bluetooth/BLE stack and knowledge of Agile methodologies.
  • Experience with other technology stacks beyond mobile development (iOS/Android).
