Result of Service

The Senior Adviser will provide expert advice to the CCAC Fossil Fuel Regulatory Programme (FFRP), engaging key partners and sectoral actors and enrolling countries into the Programme, including through bilateral outreach, thematic meetings, regional meetings, and potential ministerial engagement, as well as engagement via the CCAC Fossil Fuel Hub; provide guidance to operationalize the FFRP; develop documents including sector and engagement strategies, case studies, and policy briefs; and coordinate with the Programme's principal implementing organization to develop work plans and approaches tailored to individual developing country requests/archetypes of countries.

Duties and Responsibilities

The UNEP-convened Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) is a partnership of governments, intergovernmental organizations, and representatives of the private sector, the environmental community, and other members of civil society. The CCAC is the only international initiative working on integrated climate and clean air solutions to reduce the rate of near-term warming. It focuses on fast action to reduce emissions of short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) including methane, black carbon, HFCs and tropospheric ozone.

More information about the Global Methane Pledge is here: www.globalmethanepledge.org The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) hosts the Secretariat at the Economy Division in Paris. The CCAC Secretariat is seeking a Senior Adviser on Fossil Fuel Regulation to advise on implementation of the CCAC Fossil Fuel Regulatory Programme (FFRP) and coordinate with the Programme's implementing organization.

Qualifications/special skills

  • An advanced university degree is required in the field of engineering, environmental management and other related fields is required.
  • At least 15 years of experience in the fossil fuel industry or fossil fuel regulation and policy, with experience addressing super pollutant emissions from fossil fuel activities is required.
  • Experience in country and stakeholder engagement, including high-level engagement, with established networks of and access to strategic actors across the highest emitting countries of fossil fuel methane is required.
  • Experience in developing and communicating expert sectoral advice is required.
  • Proficiency in writing policy briefs, case studies, op-eds, key messages, implementation plans and sectoral strategies and guidance is desirable.
  • Proven expertise in methane and greenhouse gas mitigation is desirable.

Languages

  • Fluency in English (written and oral) is required. Knowledge of an additional UN language is an asset.
