We are looking for an experienced and talented R&D Manager for Digital Services & Atlantis to join our global team. This individual will be responsible for leading the development of customized dental implant abutments, suprastuctures, surgical guides and associated products and services in support of Dentsply Sirona’s Implants and Prosthetic Solutions. The scope is global and includes new product development as well as sustaining engineering and lifecycle maintenance activities.
This is a hybrid position which requires working in the office at least one day per week.
RESPONSIBILITIES FOR EMPLOYMENT
- Lead and manage product development initiatives for Atlantis, Simplant, and other digital products and services
- Represent R&D in forums including Corporate NPD, Innovation Council, Gate Decision Committees, project Steering Committees, Leadership Teams, etc
- Coordinate design and development activities using 3D CAD tools such as Solidworks and product data management systems such as PDMLink/Windchill.
- Manage on-site and off-site engineers and project managers, including their career development
- Coordinate and manage design support activities including reverse engineering of competitive implant systems, statistical and finite element analysis, and other product characterization aspects including failure analysis (prior experience is a must)
- Lead in-house manufacturing and quality groups to develop manufacturing approaches, workholding/process tooling, and inspection processes.
- Be responsible for adherence to company Design Control procedures and the preparation of regulatory documentation in accordance with 21 CFR 820 and ISO 13485 (prior medical device experience is required).
- Manage lifecycle maintenance and sustaining engineering of existing products, including product improvement activities and activities to maintain compliance with new or updated standards, regulations, or procedures.
- Responsibilities may include complaint investigations.
Education: Scientific or engineering education (Master, Diploma or PhD) in Mechanical/Industrial/Biomedical/Systems Engineering, or related engineering areas
Years and Type of Experience:
- 10 years professional experience with at least 5 years in precision medical device product development
- Prior experience leading and managing NPD projects
- Prior experience managing engineering staff
- Prior experience collaborating with off-site and intercontinental teams
Key Skills, Knowledge & Capabilities:
- Proficiency in project management fundamentals (Project Management Professional preferred)
- Proficiency in Design Controls according to 21 CFR 820 and ISO 13485
- Proficiency in CNC machining and 3D printing concepts
- Proficiency in 3D CAD tools and associated systems (SolidWorks preferred).
- Experience working in product data management and document control systems
- High proficiency in remote and intercontinental collaboration
- Up to 10% international travel
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, speak, use hands, reach with hands and arms, see listen and type. May need to lift up to 25 pounds.
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Work primarily performed in an office environment. The noise level is usually moderate with limited temperature fluctuations. May require travel using different forms of transportation.
