Job Description:

Merchants Insurance Group is a leading Property and Casualty Insurer in the Northeast and is looking for a Regional Underwriting Supervisor for our Commercial Lines Underwriting team located in Melville, New York.

The Regional Underwriting Supervisor will become part of a key dedicated underwriting management team focused on leadership and mentoring of underwriting colleagues. This position interacts extensively with internal colleagues, company management and outside Agent personnel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

• Cultivating solid relationships with independent agents and internal staff while working towards achieving the most optimal outcomes for Merchants and our policyholders.
• Supervising activities of underwriters and underwriting assistants in accordance with departmental objectives and standards.
• Reviewing accounts beyond individual authority with the Regional Underwriting Manager and recommend a course of action.
• Achieving regional loss ratio and production goals for commercial lines of business.

 

Qualifications & Skills:

• Qualified candidates will have a 4 year degree or equivalent work related experience.
• A minimum of 5 years commercial underwriting experience.
• Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.
• Property and Casualty insurance related coursework is desired i.e. CPCU.
• Previous Agency relationships within the local insurance industry – NY is highly desirable.
• Microsoft Office knowledge as well as the ability to work with internal company systems (WINS, ImageRight etc.).
• Strong communication and organizational skills.

 

Merchants Insurance Group Pay information:

Merchants Insurance Group offers a competitive pay scale.  Merchants Insurance Group offers a competitive pay scale.  The estimated salary for this role ranges from $105,000 - $140,000 based on leveling and geography, along with an equity component and a comprehensive benefits package.  This range is merely an estimate; actual compensation may deviate from this range based on skills, experience and qualifications.
