The Random House publicity department is currently seeking a Publicist to join the Harmony, Rodale Books, and Convergent team. Harmony, Rodale, and Convergent Books are three distinct industry leaders in publishing prescriptive narrative non-fiction, illustrated food and lifestyle, self-improvement, health, wellness, spirituality, parenting, and business empowerment books. Based in New York, Harmony, Rodale, and Convergent are part of Penguin Random House, LLC, the world's largest general trade book publisher.

The ideal candidate for this position will have experience strategizing on and executing non-fiction PR campaigns, an established network of national broadcast, print and online media contacts, and excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Candidates should possess strong internal and external communication skills, be adept in time management, and the ability to work both independently as well as in a collaborative setting. This position will report to the VP & Sr Dir, Publicity of the Harmony, Rodale and Convergent imprints.

This in-office position has responsibilities such as attending author and agent meetings as well as team and strategy meetings. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance at least 3 days a week in our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA).

Day-to-day tasks will include:

  • Planning and execution of publicity campaigns for multiple authors, creators, and brands 
  • High-touch author care and attentive communication with authors, agents, and internal publishing team 
  • Developing, researching, and maintaining strong relationships with national, online, podcast, and local media contacts 
  • Writing creative and impactful press materials and pitches 
  • Prepping authors for media interviews and events 

The Essentials: 

  • At least 4-5 years of relevant experience in book publicity 
  • Strong verbal and written communication and pitching skills 
  • Exceptional organizational skills and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines 
  • Existing relationships with national and regional media contacts, notably in the lifestyle space  
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects and responsibilities simultaneously 
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively while also responding to urgent issues 
  • Experience and comfort presenting in front of large groups including internal meetings 
  • A motivated self-starter, strategic thinker, and team player 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite 

The salary for this position is $66,500.  All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
