About the Portfolio

Property Services has approximately 75 staff and has responsibility for the operation, maintenance, utilisation and enhancement of buildings owned and leased by RMIT University. Property Services oversees construction projects and ensures the provision of physical facilities services. The Group has an operating budget in excess of $75m and current capital projects are significant. RMIT's built environment involves approximately 124 buildings spread across all of RMIT's campuses and sites. The capital stock of the University is diverse and valued at approximately $2 billion and includes heritage and other classifications.

The Role

RMIT University is embarking on an exciting new chapter with the launch of the Living Places Plan, our visionary master plan guiding the next generation of campus environments. As we embed this foundational strategy across Property Services, we are seeking talented project managers like you to help bring it to life.

Join our passionate and collaborative team as a Project Manager, Capital Works, and play an important role in shaping the spaces and experiences that will enable RMIT's ambitions for the coming years.

The Project Manager position is responsible for managing the delivery of assigned projects across all phases, from briefing and feasibility through planning and design to construction and handover.

This role will be required to lead and collaborate with multiple internal and external stakeholders, engage and lead external consultant/contractor project teams and drive substantial project workstreams and complex tasks.

The Project Manager is to take a leadership role in managing project risks and ensuring all assigned projects meet financial, program, scope, quality, safety and environmental aligned to RMIT's Living Places Plan.

This position will require a high level of communication, negotiation and organisational skill together with a strong strategic outlook and commercial acumen.

You have demonstrated experience managing capital projects in complex environments, are skilled at motivating and engaging teams across diverse disciplines, and possess excellent organisational, negotiation and commercial acumen. We invite you to join us as a Senior Project Manager, Capital Works, where you will play a pivotal role in the delivery of campus-defining projects, supporting RMIT's strategic goals and the seamless integration of the Living Places Plan with key property and capital development frameworks.

Skills & Experience

  • Manage the delivery of assigned capital projects across all phases-from briefing and feasibility, through planning and design, to construction and handover-ensuring outcomes meet financial, program, scope, quality, safety, and environmental objectives aligned with RMIT's Living Places Plan.

  • Lead and collaborate with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including external consultant and contractor project teams, driving complex project workstreams and addressing challenges effectively.

  • Identify and manage project risks proactively, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.

  • Apply effective project management principles in planning, resource allocation, communication, documentation, implementation, negotiation, evaluation and reporting.

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, authorities, and other project partners through clear and professional communication.

  • Contribute to financial management of project budgets, capital expenditure, and provide concise financial reporting.
