Description of Work
The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is accepting applications for an Inland Fisheries Program Manager (Conservation Management Coordinator) for our Inland Fisheries Division.
The NC Wildlife Resources Commission's Inland Fisheries Division manages, conserves, enhances, and restores the State's freshwater fishes, mussels, crayfish and supporting aquatic habitats through fisheries research, fisheries management, hatchery operation, and habitat conservation.
The Inland Fisheries Program Manager is an administrative and supervisory position responsible for statewide coordination of fisheries management, sport fish research and survey projects, fishing access and statewide fishing regulations.
The Inland Fisheries Program Manager directly supervises regional fisheries supervisors and oversees human resources management for permanent and temporary employees. This position serves as one of two Assistant Chiefs for the Inland Fisheries Division. This employee represents the Inland Fisheries Division and has decision-making authority when the Division Chief is unavailable.
Other administrative duties include helping to ensure that WRC policies and procedures are implemented within the Inland Fisheries Division, assisting with human resources actions, overseeing workplace safety, and coordinating the review and issuance of permits, and managing operating budgets.
This position is based in the WRC Headquarters office, located in Raleigh, NC (Wake Co.). Alternate work locations, including a home-based office, may be considered.
A Monday-Friday schedule is associated with this position which involves working 40 hours per week. This position is eligible for teleworking under the agency's current telework policy of one day per week as approved by management. This position has statewide responsibilities. Assignments, work and projects require monthly travel, and occasional travel outside NC.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
- Experience in fisheries science and conservation biology in order to enhance, conserve, and manage fisheries resources and their habitats;
- Experience in statewide fisheries management objectives and resource issues;
- Experience evaluating and supervising complex field studies;
- Experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others (such as administrators, biologists, wildlife/fisheries groups, and government officials;
- Experience supervising activities of a highly specialized, professional team of biologists.
Special Qualification/Requirement:
- Possession of a valid North Carolina Driver's License is required within 90 days of hire.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in wildlife or fisheries management, marine biology, fisheries science, zoology or biology from an appropriately accredited institution and six years of related experience;
