Salary Range

Overview

This role will have dual responsibilities for managing the online certificate program and conducting research with the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication.

 

Program Management and Teaching:

Managing all elements of the Strategic Climate Change Communication certificate while coordinating with student staff and university staff when appropriate on all matters related to administration, operations, marketing, admissions, and curriculum. Creating, coordinating, and teaching live sessions of the Strategic Climate Change Communication online certificate program. Exhibiting exceptional organizational skills as well as tactical thinking to manage and nurture a program with many stakeholders and partners.

 

Fostering, guiding, and mentoring online cohort community of learners to successfully complete rigorous academic activities of the course given their other commitments and unique challenges. Coordinating with Yale staff to support the administrative side of this effort (marketing, IT, admissions, payments, alumni networks, etc.). Managing human resource and administrative functions of the program, including staffing, hiring, supervising, and supporting Online Course Assistants and Program Associates to carry out the functions of the online certificate course.

 

Working with Yale Program on Climate Change Communication faculty leads to conduct an annual review of all content, including recorded lectures, readings, assignments, etc. in order to ensure relevance, the inclusion of the latest science and solutions, and attentiveness to the needs of the cohort, and then carrying out strategic direction of faculty leads. Conducting and expanding annual marketing for the certificate, utilizing existing networks and supporters who promote the certificate both within and beyond Yale. Coordinating with YSE Communications staff and the Poorvu Center on the creation and dissemination of content such as participant spotlights, op-eds, and material to be featured in newsletters, websites, social media, marketing efforts, and any and all promotional efforts.

 

Managing the Strategic Climate Change Communication Certificate course delivery process with Poorvu, program staff, and YSE staff. Performing quality control and testing of online modules and coordinate with Program Associate and other Yale staff to fix problems as they arise, with the aim to deliver an enjoyable and flawless experience to the online learner. Managing the Canvas site publishing activities, and document the delivery processes. Managing the program budget on a day-to-day basis while garnering insights and direction from Yale Program on Climate Change Communication faculty leads.

 

Serving as the first point of contact for the online cohorts and while the program is in session, responding to questions from the cohort of participants, engaging and scheduling live sessions with faculty or external experts, and coordinating grading and exercises with Online Teaching Assistants.

 

Research Activities:

Conducting scientific research on the political, psychological, cultural, and social factors influencing public climate change awareness, risk perceptions, policy preferences, and behavior. Authoring peer-reviewed publications and public-facing reports. Contributing to survey research design, implementation, data analysis, and data management. Collaborating with the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication research team on ongoing projects. Presenting research findings at conferences and public forums. Developing grant proposals and contributing to funding applications. Mentoring students and research assistants on research projects. May perform other duties as assigned.

 

Essential Duties

Principal Responsibilities:

1. Oversees the advancement and growth of the program. Gives direction and leadership supporting the philosophy, mission, strategy, and annual goals and objectives. Assumes primary accountability for disseminating and publishing all program information to create public awareness and support of the program.

2. Works closely with leadership, internal and external colleagues, and community residents to further develop and implement strategic plans.

3. Identifies, solicits, and cultivates community partnerships and collaborations to assist in the development and growth of the program. Develops the metrics to identify and measure the success of the program. Responsible for measurements of grant success and related evaluation.

4. Assists in identifying and evaluating potential future funding sources, and contributes to the submission of grants and contracts supporting the program, including the annual submission and writing of all content areas and budgetary sections of grant applications. Develops and manages the program's operating budget.

5. Develops the administrative infrastructure of the program. Manages human resource and administrative functions of the program, including staffing and hiring, supervision, performance development, counseling and discipline, if warranted. Oversees and manages information systems, facilities, and space needs.

6. Investigates, identifies, implements, and oversees the maintenance of systems to gather, track, and report information to support the initiatives of the program. Tracks all program activities and regularly informs leadership of progress on each initiative. Recommends structural or programmatic adjustments, changes or additions based on full knowledge of missions, goals, and objectives.

7. Initiates, designs, and manages the compilation of program communications; identifying outreach potential, and promoting philanthropic and collaborative support of the program. Contributes to the development and assists in the management of content on the program's website and monitors all changes and additions to the editorial content. 8. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Required Education and Experience: PhD in a related field and four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

The ideal candidate has a Ph.D. in environmental communication, political science, psychology, sociology, or related field with extensive experience in higher education curriculum development in climate change communication. The candidate should have a strong background in pedagogical approaches to online education and should have experience using online learning platforms and assessing education outcome metrics. The candidate should demonstrate excellence in teaching in all modalities (online, hybrid and face-to-face).

 

Strong background in climate change communication research with a track record of peer-reviewed publications is highly desired. Experience with survey research methodology, experimental design, and statistical analysis is preferred. Expertise in communicating effectively with diverse audiences including students, policymakers, the general public, and professionals in the U.S. and internationally is valued. Experience developing and managing educational programs, particularly in online or hybrid formats, is essential.

 

The candidate should be able to balance research excellence with program management responsibilities, demonstrating both scholarly rigor and practical implementation skills. Preference will be given to candidates with experience working at Yale and familiarity with the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication's research and educational initiatives.
