UPMC Washington School of Nursing is seeking a passionate and experienced Nursing Instructor to join our dedicated faculty team. This is a rewarding opportunity to shape the future of healthcare by educating and mentoring aspiring nurses in both classroom and clinical settings. The selected candidate will be hired into the appropriate title and pay scale based on qualifications & experience. The pay scale on the posting is for the Nursing Instructor, not for the Assistant Clinical Instructor.
Responsibilities:
- Serves as a role model for communication with other health care team members to enhance and influence nursing within the organization.
- Maintains professional practice knowledge base through continuing education programs and conferences.
- Provides resources and coaching to diverse learners to assist them in meeting their individual needs.
- Utilizes critical thinking skills to lead students in the application of the nursing process in the classroom and in the clinical area.
- Demonstrates clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem solving abilities required as related to various aspects of the teaching-learning process.
- Instructs and evaluates multiple students and creates meaningful learning assignments both in the classroom and in the clinical area.
- Demonstrates mastery of course content and clinical competence.
- Contributes in the development of school policies.
- Utilizes teaching strategies grounded in educational theory and evidence based teaching practice.
- Provides quality classroom and clinical instruction to groups of nursing students.
Preferred Qualifications: Prefer an RN with mental health experience or willing to take students to mental health units. The candidate must either have an MSN or be enrolled in a MSN program.
Schedule: This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, with flexibility based on the needs of the school and clinical requirements. Typical hours during clinical rotations are approximately 7AM - 3:00 PM, while classroom-based days generally run from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM. When scheduling allows, employees may be eligible to work remotely one day per pay period. Occasional travel (approximately 1-2 times per year) to Pittsburgh may be required for meetings or conferences.
Qualifications:
Nursing Instructor:
- MSN required 3 years of clinical practice.
- Precepting experience required; clinical teaching experience in prelicensure program preferred.
- Previous teaching experience preferred.
- Certified Nurse Educator certification preferred.
- Appointment to this position and retention of this position is contingent upon the approval of the PA State Board of Nursing.
Clinical Nursing Instructor:
- BSN required 3 years of clinical practice, required.
- Precepting experience required; clinical teaching experience in prelicensure program preferred.
- Must be enrolled in an MSN program with a 3 year completion plan.
- Appointment to this position and retention of this position is contingent upon the approval of the PA State Board of Nursing.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.
- UPMC approved certification, preferred.
- CPR Certification for BLS for Health Care Providers.
- Appointment to this position and retention of this position is contingent upon the approval of the PA State Board of Nursing.
- CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
- Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
