ICS seeks a motivated, detail-oriented, and mission-driven professional to join our Editorial Team. The Managing Editor will be responsible for managing Editorial Team processes, guiding all projects, and driving projects forward so they are completed on time, follow standardized editorial guidelines, and meet ICS’s high standards for historical accuracy, concision, and editorial polish. This position reports to the Editorial Director.

Key Responsibilities
The ICS Editorial Team performs a variety of functions in support of the organization’s mission, with particular focus on two Strategic Directions: (1) Increase the quality, quantity, and availability of accurate and nuanced instructional materials, and (2) Improve the quality of K–12 education through state education policy (standards) and instructional materials adoption processes.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Editorial Director on the vision and strategy for Editorial Team processes
- Manage, standardize, and optimize Editorial Team processes, including guidelines, project management, scheduling, workload tracking, project prioritization, and other core team functions.
- Create, update, and maintain team guidelines and resources to govern editorial review work (e.g., editorial/style guidelines, rationales, checklists, templates, file organization systems, naming conventions, dashboards, trackers, etc.)
- Create and manage project plans, assigning tasks and dates in conjunction with Editorial Director to ensure successful and timely submission of reviews
- Continually evaluate, research, and optimize use of editorial software/digital tools (including project management platform) to ensure efficient team processes
- Support Editorial Director with developing and maintaining data systems to track metrics associated with organizational strategic goals
- Support additional Editorial Team functions as needed, including editorial review and content development projects and team management (i.e., meeting planning, coordinating team resources, etc.)

You Have:
- Bachelor’s degree or beyond in history, education, Jewish studies, English, journalism, or a related field
- At least 3-5 years of relevant experience developing curriculum or educational materials as a writer/editor.
- At least two years of experience leading or managing projects under tight deadlines
- Solid understanding of the K-12 educational landscape and the educational publishing industry
- Preferred: knowledge of Judaism, Jewish history, and the history of Israel and/or K-12 social studies content, instruction, and curriculum design.
- Preferred: experience leading teams, effectively delegating, and providing coaching and constructive feedback
Compensation
$85,000-$95,000 depending on experience
