Job Description:

Summary:

The role of Course Development Manager is a leadership role within our Learning and Innovation team, overseeing operations tasks related to building, enhancing, and maintaining online courses. The manager's primary responsibility is to establish and lead course development processes with a team of Instructional Designers to ensure online courses meet high standards of quality. Additional services performed by this team include building online courses or course components and supporting course enhancements. The Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams, contribute to strategic planning, and drive accessibility improvements across our educational platforms.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of Instructional Designers, providing guidance, mentorship, and support.

  • Establish and implement robust processes to ensure the quality of learning content against design and functional standards.

  • Oversee the building of online courses and course components, ensuring they are engaging, interactive, and aligned with learning objectives.

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, instructional designers, and technology specialists to enhance the overall quality of educational content and ensure seamless integration of content and technology.

  • Advise and influence the adoption of learning design and accessibility best practices across all stages of course development and maintenance.

  • Provide training and workshops on standards, tools, and best practices related to course development services.

  • Lead and manage projects related to course development services, coordinating efforts across teams.

Skills:

  • Expertise in learning content accessibility, and experience evaluating and improving online courses and digital assets to improve accessibility

  • Experience working in a learning management system (LMS) in an elevated role, such as administrator or content developer

  • Experience working in a customer-facing role providing high quality customer service in a professional environment

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products

  • Excellent technical writing

  • Experience identifying potential risks and opportunities, root cause analysis and problem solving

  • Able to work independently and on a team

  • Passion for new technologies and education

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills

  • Ability to adapt to changing needs, appropriately prioritize work based on urgency and value, and manage concurrent tasks to accomplish a variety of deliverables.

  • Detail oriented and internally driven to produce high-quality results.

Education & Experience Requirements:

Experience:

  • 5+ years proven experience in instructional design and development of online courses, preferably in a higher education setting.

  • Experience with D2L Brightspace and Content Management Systems.

  • Accessibility training or certification.
