Job Description:
Saybrook University, a non-profit accredited graduate school using a hybrid distance/residential learning model, seeks Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Humanistic Clinical Psychology. Our pedagogy includes a rich diverse curriculum with a focus on critical and creative thinking grounded in humanistic principles. It combines best practices in hybrid online and residential education. Saybrook students are mature and proficient in the use of advances in technology applied in higher education. We prepare scholar-practitioners to engage the world in the 21st century.
Under the direction of the Department Chair, the Adjunct Faculty member will engage students through discussion and assignments as outlined in the course syllabi, provide students with substantive feedback, and respond to student questions and concerns in a timely manner. The Adjunct Faculty member will also maintain communication with Department Administration, Faculty, and Students.
Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Effective student engagement and mentorship

Collaboration with and responsiveness to department chair, faculty, staff accordingly

Course Delivery/Development and Syllabus Review/Updating
-
Deliver high quality innovative on-line courses that foster critical thinking
-
Ensure high academic standards and quality aligned with program learning outcomes
-
Coordination of course offerings and catalog documentation as needed
-
Potential to design innovative, progressive, and clinically responsive courses
-
Participating in curriculum development, as needed.

Attend at least one faculty meeting per term (others are encouraged); monitor departmental communications
-
Residential Learning Experiences (RLE)
-
Potential for presenting workshops, course introductions, clinical training, and/or attending meetings during the weeklong in-person learning activity (negotiable)

Faculty Engagement Expectations
All Faculty members at Saybrook University are expected to be available and responsive to students. Adjunct Faculty engagement expectations include:
- At a minimum, Adjunct Faculty are expected to interact with students in their online course at least three (3) times per week. Note: Substantive Faculty interactions with students may/often include (but not be limited to) methods such as email, phone, video teleconference, Residential Conference meetings.
- Saybrook Adjunct Faculty are expected to respond to students by using their Saybrook email address (@saybrook.edu), Canvas inbox, or by phone within two (2) business days no matter where they are located.
- In addition to scheduled student appointments, Adjunct Faculty are expected to post and provide two (2) hours of drop-in office hours via GTM a month. These time blocks should be no less than thirty (30) minutes each. Office hours can be offered during normal business hours.
- Following through on Student inquiries and requests as it relates to academic progress.
- Utilize University offered resources to maintain technology skills specific and appropriate to each program and process.
- Adjunct Faculty will contact Students enrolled in their course within the first week of the new semester and prior to residential and educational conferences.
- For individually mentored courses, Adjunct Faculty will schedule with each Student regular online and off-line communication.
- For other course designs, Adjunct Faculty will demonstrate how they are engaging Students in a consistent and meaningful way across the semester or term.
- Adjunct Faculty will return Student papers with feedback for assignments submitted through Canvas within the following guidelines (applicable to candidacy essays, MA theses/projects, and dissertations):
o 1 week for work less than 5 pages in length
o 2 weeks for work up to 25 pages in length
o 3 weeks for work 26-50 pages in length
o 4 weeks for work over 50 pages in length
- Course papers must be graded according to the course evaluation deadline in the academic calendar.
Position Requirements:

Doctorate from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning
-
Earned doctorate in psychology or highest degree for discipline
-
Licensed as a Clinical Psychologist or licensed practitioner in discipline
-
Demonstrated scholarship, clinical practice, and/or accomplishments in the fields of humanistic, existential, multiculturalism, and/or transpersonal psychologies
-
Previous experience in faculty leadership roles, particularly regarding curriculum development and working across departments preferred.

Relevant online supervision and teaching experience at the doctoral level, including supervision of dissertation research
-
Clinical experience and effectiveness in working with ethnically diverse and/or other special populations
-
Clear communication skills
-
Collegial attitude and willingness to work within a matrix organization
-
Some travel may be required

Experience with ethnically diverse and/or other special populations

Able to offer on-line instruction regarding topics and skills within his/her areas of expertise.

Committed to excellence in teaching, practice, and research (experiences with on-line instruction is desirable)

Knowledge and experience of online higher education and research/IRB administration best practices.

Experience with Office 365, Learning Management Systems (Canvas experience preferred), and other software for research, IRB administration, and online teaching.

Compensation & Benefits
Three credit courses are budgeted at $2,000-4,000 per course, dependent upon student enrollment. Two credit courses are budgeted at $1,334-2,668 per course, dependent upon student enrollment. Under-enrolled courses may fall below these ranges. Additional compensation factors may impact total compensation.
