This position is hybrid and remote eligible for up to 40% of the time. The office location for this position is at ESL Corporate Headquarters in Rochester, NY. Hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Must remain flexible to meet current and future business needs.

Pay: 

Starting salary: $101,852   Range $90,108 - $113,500

Purpose: 

In addition to developing code for financial service applications, this position acts as a technical consultant to the organization for all JavaScript and Python and other development related efforts. This position will implement technical solutions conforming to the standards and technical direction defined by ESL’s approach to software development and system implementations. The selected candidate will actively support the adoption and implementation of DevOps practices and modern software development methodologies, leveraging open-source tools to drive innovation and efficiency at ESL.

Accountabilities: 

Implement technical solutions to address business needs

• The ability to participate in all aspects of the software development lifecycle
  • Active participate in requirements determination and consulting with the business
  • Participate in design efforts and code reviews to ensure quality software development standards
  • Support functional parts of the business with their IT needs and goals
  • Understanding of modern software development services (Azure DevOps)
• Provides technical consultation to IT Organization
• Develops applications using Visual Studio Code and other development tools
• Understand SQL and is able to write complex queries utilized in application development
• Ability to learn new programming languages and technologies to meet business needs
• Demonstrated commitment to remain current in technology: Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
• Act as more than a developer/programmer by being a systems consultant

Ensures that a strong partnership exists with internal business units:

• Assists business owners with the understanding and implementation of the ESL Desired Information Architecture.
• Provides a high degree of support for business unit clients
• Consults with organizational management to clarify technical issues and identify opportunities for future initiatives
• Works closely with support team members to ensure that deliverables meet IT standards and client quality and timeliness expectations.

Ensures that the computing environment is stable and available to support business units and customers at all times:

• Implements reliable solutions that meet batch and real time performance expectations and support pre-established uptime goals
• Schedules changes in accordance with Change Management policies and procedures
• Proactively engages in the resolution of production issues both within and outside immediate areas of expertise
• Provides 24X7 production support as needed

Ensures that a strong partnership exists with external suppliers:

• Responsible for clearly defining and communicating expectations with vendors
• Collaborates with suppliers to develop effective solutions that meet ESL business needs

Qualifications: 

• Bachelor's degree preferably in Computer Science or similar or four years’ additional of equivalent strong development/programming experience 

• Minimum of 1 year of experience in programming experience in a corporate/business environment building responsive web applications utilizing following technologies; This experience can include college related internships and co-ops. 

• • Node.js and understanding its core principles
  • REST and other APIs
  • React.js and its core principles (or worked with other popular Frameworks like Angular or Vue)
  • Working in Azure or with other major cloud providers. 

• Experience developing and testing user interface designs across multiple browsers and mobile devices
• Effective communications and interpersonal skills 
• Proven ability to manage activities with limited guidance
• Demonstrated commitment to remain current in technology, maintaining professional and technical knowledge

• Experience with the following: 
  • Azure DevOps (CI/CD), repos, boards
  • Next.js
  • Redis
  • MongoDB
