The Law Department is comprised of three divisions: the City Attorney's Office, which handles representing the City in civil matters; the City Prosecutor's Office, which handles the prosecution of misdemeanor crimes committed in Phoenix; and Management Services. Currently, the Prosecutor's Office is filling Court/Legal Clerk II vacancies in the Victim Services Unit (VSU) and the Legal Clerk Unit (LCU).
Victim Services Unit
This Unit performs both critical and/or legally mandated functions related to victims' rights such as sending victim notification letters, restitution request processing, ensuring victims have court escorts, and ensuring that emergency services are available and provided to victims. The work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.
Legal Clerk Unit
This Unit collaborates with criminal staff attorneys to prepare and manage cases including document and evidence management, obtaining victim and witness availability for trial, clerical support such as motion filing and subpoenaing, ensuring cases are prepared for the prosecutor at trial. The work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; however, some positions in this unit may be required to work an alternate schedule to include weekends.
The job duties include:
- Providing customer service which includes processing incoming requests and providing information to staff, coworkers, or the public via phone, email, mail, or in-person. Reviewing files, documents, and printed material for accuracy and completeness.
- Running daily reports through various programs.
- Updating and maintaining a high volume of cases in a Criminal Management System.
- Converting, copying, scanning and attaching necessary material as PDF documents into databases.
- Answering multi-line phone system and transferring calls after screening, as needed.
- Maintaining confidentiality with client files and case notes in compliance with professional standards and victims' rights.
- Processing a high volume of incoming and outgoing mail.
- Providing back-up coverage to team members and other areas, as needed.
These positions may be eligible for hybrid teleworking options after training is complete and is implemented at the discretion of the Department Director.
Opportunity to underfill as a Court/Legal Clerk I may be considered. The Court/Legal Clerk I underfill are for candidates who require additional experience to meet the qualifications of the Court/Legal Clerk II classification. Candidates will be non-competitively promoted to the Court/Legal Clerk II classification once they possess sufficient experience.

- Exhibits problem solving and detail-oriented skills.
SALARY
Court/Legal Clerk II
Pay Range: $20.51 to $33.41 per hour.
Hiring Range: $20.51 to $27.49 per hour.
Court/Legal Clerk I
Pay Range: $19.54 to $28.86 per hour.
Hiring Range: $19.54 to $20.51 per hour.

Internal Only: Please understand that this is pay grade 341. If selected, your salary offer will be based on the applicable promotion or demotion worksheet in accordance with the City Pay Ordinance.
- Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase.
- Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease.
- Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Court/Legal Clerk II
- Two years of clerical or public contact experience,
- Including a minimum of one year in a courtroom or law office.
Court/Legal Clerk I
- One year of clerical or public contact experience.
Required of both positions:
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
- All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
- Candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment must be fingerprinted and will have their fingerprints used to check the Criminal History Records of the State of Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Any records returned will be reviewed to determine the candidate's suitability for the job.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:

- Ordering or obtaining evidence.
