4-H is the nation's positive youth development program that builds skills needed in life and career, through fun, hands-on, non-formal educational experiences, delivered in partnership with caring adults. 4-H County Educators provide program development, coordination, outreach and teaching for county, regional and state UVM Extension 4-H Youth Development Educational Programs for youth ages 5-18.

This work includes recruiting, developing and collaborating with volunteers and community partners, promoting and expanding 4-H efforts, and evaluating program quality. Programming foci include science, healthy living and civic engagement as well as building leadership and other workforce skills.

Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)

  • Bachelor's degree + 2 years of related experience, or equivalent work combination, with focus in youth or family programming.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer and electronic communication proficiency.

Ability to:

  • Plan, organize, coordinate, teach and evaluate educational programs. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with youth and adult volunteers, including community partners, in a team environment.
  • Provide leadership in a collaborative environment and be consistently supportive of decisions made by University of Vermont Extension.
  • Work independently.
  • Interpret research findings on youth development and communicate these with youth and volunteer audiences or with faculty working with subject area curriculum/program teams and advisory groups.

Desirable Qualifications

Experience with volunteer development and/or building community collaborations preferred.

Anticipated Pay Range $37,000-$45,000 at .80 FTE Other Information

This position will be based out of the St. Albans, VT Extension Field Office, but hybrid or remote work within Grand Isle, Franklin and Chittenden Counties may be considered.

.80 FTE is 30 hours per week.

Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, which includes evenings, weekends, and willingness to travel, primarily within the state.

Working an irregular, yet flexible schedule that includes some nights, overnights and weekends. Travel in counties and statewide is expected with perhaps nationally optional.

120 day probationary period required.

Must have access to a reliable vehicle. Must be able to lift and haul totes of supplies for events.

Special Conditions Weekend work required, Non-standard work hours required, Contingent on continued funding, Occasional evening and/or weekends required (if non-exempt position, may result in overtime), Travel to and from worksites required, This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule with an option to split time between campus and elsewhere, in accordance with the university telecommuting policy, Background Check required for this position FLSA Exempt Union Position Yes, UVMSU
