Job Description:

C&EN BrandLab, the custom content studio of the American Chemical Society (ACS), is seeking a copywriter with a strong background in science marketing. This role is ideal for a versatile writer who can craft compelling narratives that resonate with scientific audiences - responsible for creating engaging, persuasive, and effective content from complex information. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in copywriting with a solid foundation in chemistry or a related scientific field.

Key Responsibilities

Science & Marketing Content Development

• Write and edit marketing-driven content, including web copy, email campaigns, promotional materials, sponsored content, and blog posts.
• Partner with Marketing Managers to create and adapt campaigns designed to engage a wide variety of audiences and promote the Society.
• Develop persuasive and informative content for landing pages, advertisements, and social media promotions that align with the ACS brand tone of voice. s.
• Translate complex scientific concepts into engaging, succinct, and accessible content for a professional audience.
• Ensure clarity, style consistency, and scientific accuracy in all materials.
• Collaborate with designers, marketing managers, and partners to optimize content for different formats and platforms.
• Proofread and refine copy for grammar, structure, and messaging alignment.
• Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to craft campaigns that support ACS's marketing and communication initiatives.

Qualifications

Required:

• Degree in a scientific discipline (chemistry is preferred) is desirable.
• Degree in journalism or marketing will also be considered along with experience in science communication and marketing
• Proven experience in marketing copywriting, with an emphasis on alignment with brand tone of voice and succinctly communicating complex topics.
• Ability to translate complex scientific topics into compelling, audience-friendly content targeting a variety of audiences.
• Excellent editing, proofreading, and storytelling skills.

Preferred:

• Experience with email marketing and marketing copywriting (e.g., email campaigns, social media, landing pages).
• Familiarity with SEO principles, content marketing best practices, and digital analytics.

This role is based in our Washington, DC office. The Communications Division employees work a hybrid schedule, consisting of working onsite two days (Tue/Wed) per work week, as decided by functional area. The balance of the week is open to working remotely, though employees are always welcome onsite each day if they choose. A reasonable rate of compensation for this position is between $92,000 to $110,000 per year.
