This position develops communication formats and concepts for the Division, and determines the audience, style, branding, and tone of the communication.  These responsibilities aim to communicate with, educate, inform and engage the public about the Division's programs and services. This position develops communication and marketing strategies within the Department's guidelines to promote the Division's programs and services. This position designs and maintains Division messaging while partnering with individual units to ensure consistent and relevant Division-wide messaging.

As a Division contact for strategic communications, this position will support the entire Division staff by managing the flow of information to partners and stakeholders through the website, email campaigns, as well as print and video material. The position will also develop internal communications, including a monthly report, newsletters, and other mediums requested by the Office of Government, Policy, and Public Relations (GPPR), while also serving on the Division's Communication Council.

This position must complete special projects as assigned by the unit supervisor and Division Leadership Team, with the ability to take direction from multiple people and communicate effectively with various individuals about needs and priorities. This position may act on behalf of the Division Leadership Team by serving on internal and external committees and task groups as assigned and attending conferences, meetings, and other events to represent the Division.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience Only:

Six (6) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position to include:

  • Direct external communications/marketing/content production experience for a government agency, non-profit, higher education, or private sector organization.
  • Experience using Content Management Systems (CMS) like WordPress, Drupal, or SharePoint to update websites.
  • Skill in understanding target audiences and customizing content to their needs, reading levels, and interests. This includes experience requiring the ability to write clearly, concisely, and accurately for different audiences and formats, such as web pages, instructional guides, emails, talking points, and more. 

Please note: At this time the division is not seeking social media marketing as relevant experience for this position.

OR

Education and Experience:

A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to six (6) years

Qualifying fields of education will include the following: Public Relations, Journalism, Advertising, Communications, Organizational Communication, Media Studies, Marketing, English/Creative Writing, Political Science, Business, Psychology, Law, Public Administration, Public Policy, Social Science.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Skill in working with subject matter experts, department leaders, and others to create content and get approval for communication materials.

  • Experience with the Adobe Suite, including Acrobat, InDesign, and/or Premiere. 

  • Professional proficiency in both written and verbal Spanish, with the ability to accurately create, translate, and edit content for Spanish-speaking audiences.

  • Experience creating accessible content that follows WCAG criteria. This includes writing alt text for images, making PDFs accessible, and adding captions and transcripts to videos.

  • Performing duties similar to those assigned to the position as a classified State of Colorado employee.
