Title: Communications Specialist - Social Media Manager - Pathology

Location: Iowa City United States

Job Description:

The Department of Pathology is seeking a Communications Specialist (Working Title: Social Media Manager) to provide proactive identification of content in collaboration with key leaders/constituents across the department; revision, development, and maintenance of Social Media accounts for a variety of uses/platforms across the Department (education, research, recruitment, marketing, outreach, etc.); development and monitoring of analytics related to the impact of social media on various initiatives; and other related tasks such as report writing, dissemination of information re: analytics/impact of initiatives etc. This position is 100% time, Monday - Friday, 0800-1700.

Duties to include:

  • Is self directed in seeking out/staying abreast of emerging trends and activities in the clinical, academic and research environments both within and external to the University of Iowa. Proactively develops content for various social media platforms.
  • Consults with users to define system requirements, identifies programming and output needs, and verifies preliminary design and output standards for various social media platforms.
  • Ensures compliance with University and UI Health Care web, style and accessibility standards.
  • Creates applications and designs frameworks for social media posts that meet user/customer needs.
  • Reviews and analyzes posted content to rapidly identify and correct issues as needed. Escalates issues for further assistance as indicated.

The Department of Pathology is part of UI Health Care, a comprehensive health sciences center that serves Iowa and the region, as well as patients referred from the United States and overseas. Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Business, Computer Science or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least one year of experience creating social media content across channels for an organization, company, or institution.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to create content for various media platforms, including websites, newsletters, press releases, and social media; and under deadline for a variety of purposes, goals, audiences, and media.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks under pressure.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with experience interacting with internal and external stakeholders in a professional setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of University policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Experience working with Drupal or other CMS platforms; experience with web development programming languages (including JavaScript) and frameworks; experience with relational databases and SQL including knowledge of database modeling and principles of database design.
  • Experience working in higher education and/or an academic medical center.
  • Experience with photography using a variety of cameras.
