We are currently in search of a Communications Specialist to join our Marketing & Creative team! The Communications Specialist plays a vital role in implementing communication strategies that enhance the visibility and impact of Feed the Children. This position will provide support to help shape the organization's public image by amplifying our voice and raising awareness of our programs and mission. This position will support external communications while also enhancing internal communication across the organization. In this role, the Communication Specialist will contribute to promoting brand awareness and support Feed the Children's core objectives, programs, and fundraising goals. Additionally, they will drive engagement with target audiences.
This position will help develop initiatives for internal communication, a local media strategy and metrics for tracking and reporting. They will also identify opportunities to amplify brand awareness, foster engagement, and encourage participation from both internal and external audiences. Working alongside the Media Relations Manager and under the direction of the Director of Communications & PR, the Communications Specialist will contribute to the comprehensive communications plan by creating, managing, and distributing content across various platforms, such as newsletters and press releases, and collaborating with cross-departmental teams to share content on social media and Feed the Children's website. The Communications Specialist will also communicate directly with the media and coordinate our public relations efforts, serving as a visible ambassador for the organization to advance Feed the Children's brand awareness.
NOTE: This position will work a hybrid schedule from our corporate office in Oklahoma City, OK and is not a 100% remote position.
Job Requirements:
Education
Bachelor's degree in journalism, Communications, Marketing or Public Relations preferred. High school diploma required.
Experience
3+ years of demonstrated experience in communications, media relations or public relations required
Exceptional editing, communication and writing skills required
Experience publishing media content on PR Newswire or similar platform required
Experience tracking and reporting media using media monitoring platforms such as Onclusive/Critical Mention or similar required
Proven success in project management and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Proven experience in pitching media stories nationally, regionally and locally
Demonstrated ability to implement communications and media strategies preferred
Must be able to work under pressure, work accurately and meet tight deadlines.
Experience working with online project management software such as Monday.com preferred
Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint and Teams required.

Essential Functions:
Oversee communication and special media projects from conception through implementation to reporting, providing hands-on involvement in all phases.
Monitor and review the communications strategy in conjunction with the Media Relations Manager and Director of Communications & PR to ensure that the departmental goals are aligned with key business objectives.
Proactively research and identify creative channels, properties, communities and technology to drive organizational awareness.
Manage local media opportunities with focus on thought leadership to promote positive exposure surrounding Feed the Children's programs, events and initiatives.
Serve as ambassador for the organization by attending Feed the Children local events.
Manage weekly and monthly reports using media tracking software to track trends and specific communications and media relations matrices.
Monitor and analyze daily published media content via our media monitoring platform Onclusive (Critical Mention).
Monitor PR general mailbox and GEC requests to provide timely responses to incoming requests.
Oversee organizational internal communications efforts, including the development of written and verbal communications, internal newsletter, Annual Report Data, Hunger Stats, various Talking Points, Town Halls, etc.
Craft compelling, timely materials to support campaigns, briefings, executive communications, report submissions, news and press releases, press announcements, articles, by-lines, speeches, website content, strategic communications to the board of directors, etc.
Provide assistance to internal departments to ensure consistency of key messaging and branding across the organization while also promoting cross functional collaboration.
Contribute strategic insight into the social media and marketing plans as it relates to communications and media relations initiatives.
Provide updated content to share across Feed the Children's Digital Channels including, leadership page, news page, press release page, coordinate updates that are appropriate for social posts.
Present information to teams, executives, stakeholders, and the public. Develop presentations and other communications materials for internal and external audiences.
Support cross department media planning efforts including communications and media content deliverables to ensure brand message is consistent, timely and relevant.
Curate department media distribution lists maintaining and updating targeted local, regional, national contacts.
Ensure the department subscriptions and organization affiliations are kept current and track updates for membership updates BBB, Charity Navigator, Candid.
Assist in event planning and organizing press conferences, special events, and other public appearances.
Proactively identify challenges and emerging issues faced by the organization, both internally and externally, that could potentially impact the brand perception and value.
Support the development of organizational editorial and messaging calendars, working cross departmentally to ensure messages are consistent across departments.
