THE OPPORTUNITY: Senior Raw Materials and Color Manager
REPORTS TO: Senior Director of PD & Production
LOCATION: LA - On Site
Headquartered in Los Angeles, CA with an office in New York, NY, Birdy Grey supports hybrid work for eligible roles. This role requires working from out DTLA office 4 days a week. This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship. #LI-Onsite
The Color Specialist will be accountable for the full color lifecycle, from lab dips through strike-offs and final bulk approvals, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and brand alignment across all fabrications. This role requires expertise in color theory, shade management, and reproducibility, paired with a working knowledge of fabric behavior and dye processes. The specialist will also ensure lining fabrics match shell fabrics to deliver a consistent and flawless product experience.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Color Development & Approvals
- Own the end-to-end color approval process: lab dip → strike-off → bulk production approval.
- Maintain and manage color standard libraries (digital + physical) for reference across seasons.
- Partner with Design to translate seasonal color palettes accurately into fabrics.
- Drive consistency and reproducibility across multiple dye lots and mills.
Cross-Fabric & Lining Matching
- Approve and ensure consistent shades across Satin, Chiffon, Luxe Knit, Crepe, and Velvet for our bridesmaid dress collection, as well as Groomsmen accessories, and Non-dress categories as well.
- Evaluate and confirm lining fabrics match shell fabrics for shade accuracy and brand standards.
- Anticipate challenges related to fiber content, construction, or finishes that may impact color perception.
- Troubleshoot shade variance with mills and propose solutions to meet brand requirements.
Collaboration & Communication
- Partner with Fabric R&D and Production to flag and solve risks in color/fabric combinations early.
- Provide precise feedback to mills and cross-functional teams to keep timelines on track.
- Support cross-category initiatives by lending expertise in shade evaluation, lining, and finishing.
THE RIGHT CANDIDATE: QUALIFICATIONS & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree Required
EXPERIENCE / REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Textile/Color Science, Fashion Product Development, or related field.
- 8+ years of experience in color development/management with direct lab-to-bulk ownership.
- Strong knowledge of color approval processes, shade evaluation, and multi-fabric alignment.
- Familiarity with lining-to-shell matching in bridal, occasionwear, or RTW.
- Proficiency with Pantone, digital shade matching, and other color management tools.
- Detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to manage multiple timelines simultaneously.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Impeccable organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform data deep dives to surface actionable insights.
- Proactive problem solver with the ability to troubleshoot and/or escalate issues effectively.
- Hard working and willing to roll sleeves up - no job is too big or too small.
- You have an entrepreneurial spirit. You thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, fluid environment. You are comfortable with ambiguity and take initiative to lead projects.
