Job Summary
- Responsible for arriving on time to greet patient at the International Patient Center and provides services throughout BWH and DFCI from the point of entry, registration, through the continuum of care and, accompanying patient back to debrief with the Program Manager upon completion of appointments. - When possible the same navigator will be assigned to the patient throughout the continuum of care - Acts as a Navigator for the Patient during hospital/Institute appointment(s). - Under the direction of the Program Manager, assists patients with arranging appointments, tests, examinations - Interprets and transmits accurately and completely, complex medical information from medical providers to patients, including interpretation of consent forms, diagnoses, care plans and discharge plans of patient-related information. - Assists patients and clinical providers throughout the hospital system in a professional and courteous manner. Provides the highest quality of service at each appointment to every patient and if necessary refers the patient to the appropriate resource. - Understands and abides by all Published Standards of Practice and Codes of Ethics for Medical Interpreters at DFCI and BWH. - Seeks evaluation, certification and additional training in interpreting, health care practices and beliefs, and cultural differences. - Resolves issues that arise in their daily responsibilities, answer questions and connects patient back to Program Manager for appropriate follow-up and referrals. - Demonstrates judgment in escalating complex issues to manager and/or care providing team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree with a concentration in a human relations field (i.e. Sociology, Psychology) highly preferable or equivalent life experience. - Certificate of completion of medical interpretation training. - Minimum of 2 years experience working as a medical interpreter in a hospital or medical office setting. - Must have knowledge of medical terminology, basic human anatomy, physiology and diagnostic procedures and treatments. - Must be fluent, both verbal and written, in English and target language. - National Medical Interpreter Certification, Part I or Part II, or desire to achieve one shortly after hire strongly preferred. - Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
