Job Description Summary
As a PDF Accessibility Assistant, you’ll support FVTC’s digital accessibility efforts by remediating PDF documents to meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards—ensuring every file you tag and test is fully usable by individuals with visual, cognitive, or motor disabilities. In this detail-oriented role, you’re not just fixing tags and running checks—you’re breaking down barriers, advancing the college’s commitment to equity and legal compliance, and gaining hands-on experience with industry-leading accessibility tools and best practices that drive real change in higher education.
$15.00 per hour.
Maximum 11.75 hours per week.
Job Description
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily to be qualified for the position. Other duties may be required and assigned.
PDF Remediation and Accessibility Compliance
- Remediate PDF documents using provided software.
- Apply WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards to ensure compatibility with assistive technologies.
- Accurately tag document elements such as headings, tables, lists, images, and links.
- Conduct accessibility quality assurance checks prior to final submission
Documentation and Workflow Tracking
- Maintain logs of documents remediated and progress made.
- Follow established naming conventions and organizational structure for remediated files.
- Communicate regularly with team members to prioritize remediation tasks.
Confidentiality and Data Protection
- Ensure compliance with FERPA and institutional data privacy standards.
- Handle confidential or sensitive materials responsibly and securely.
Non-Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Training and Continuous Improvement
- Participate in onboarding and periodic accessibility training.
- Offer suggestions to improve remediation workflows or documentation practices.
- Help maintain job aids or documentation of remediation tips for future interns.
Outreach and Support
- Provide basic guidance to faculty or staff on creating accessible source PDFs.
- Assist with basic organization of digital files and content libraries.
- Support general office tasks related to digital accessibility initiatives as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and/or Experience Requirements:
- One year of basic computer use experience required (e.g., Microsoft Word, web-based tools, file organization).
- Experience working independently and following detailed instructions required.
- Previous experience working with PDF documents or file formatting preferred.
- Training on remediation software and accessibility standards will be provided.

Work Environment
- Work will be completed in a hybrid environment, both in person and virtually.
- In-person work will typically be performed in an office or computer lab setting.

- Work may involve extended periods of sitting and computer use.
Work environment may change based upon college needs.
Physical Requirements
- Sitting: This role requires extended periods of sitting while performing tasks and utilizing computer systems.
- Fine Motor Skills: Precise hand movements and manual dexterity are needed for using a keyboard and navigating accessibility software.
- Repetitive Motions: Capacity to perform repetitive motions such as typing and mouse use without discomfort or injury-.
- Visual Acuity: Ability to focus on detailed digital content for extended periods while reviewing and remediating PDFs.
- Mobility: Minimal mobility required; occasional movement within an office setting may be necessary.
- Lifting and Carrying: Occasional lifting of light materials (up to 10 lbs) such as laptops, print materials, or office supplies.
- Communication: Clear written communication skills are essential for documenting work and collaborating with team members through email or chat platforms.

Additional Information
Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour.
Pay is based on a multitude of factors, including experience, qualifications, education, relevant certifications, internal equity, and market data. Note: Internal applicants' wage will be based upon the applicable compensation guidelines.
