The following position is to join RTX Corporate, specifically within our Legal, Contracts, and Compliance department:

This dynamic and fast-paced Associate General Counsel, EH&S role will be primarily responsible for providing legal support to the Executive Director and Associate General Counsel for EH&S on environmental site remediation matters, EH&S compliance and other regulatory issues and the environmental aspects of real estate and other transactions such as mergers and acquisitions.

In addition, counsel will work as needed with internal and external litigation attorneys that lead the defense of environmental claims and may be called upon to provide secondary support on matters such as global chemical regulations or renewable energy projects as the need arises. 

What You Will Do

Environmental Legal Support - Site Remediation

  • Provide proactive, timely and high-quality legal support to the RTX site remediation program by working with Remediation Project Managers on issues related to the investigation and remediation of the RTX portfolio of sites across the globe.
  • Support the litigation team as needed in the successful defense/settlement of environmental claims and litigation.
  • Work to establish institutional controls, where needed, to limit remedy costs and RTX exposure to future claims.
  • Lead negotiations with federal and state agencies and other stakeholders.
  • Evaluate potential risks and exposures associated with RTX remediation sites and communicate these to internal clients along with recommendations for avoiding or minimizing risk.

Environmental Legal Support – Compliance

  • Provide advice and counsel to the Corporate EH&S Department and certain business unit EH&S Departments on compliance and other regulatory matters.
  • Assess potential risks and exposures and communicate these issues to the client along with recommendations for avoiding or minimizing risk.

Environmental Legal Support - Transactions

  • Advise internal clients with identifying environmental issues, risks and potential liabilities associated with real property transactions, legal entity reduction projects and M & A deals.
  • Assist in the development of risk mitigation measures, including contractual clauses (releases and indemnities), environmental insurance or other measures.

Environmental Legal Support – Miscellaneous

  • Provide incidental legal support for other environmental issues such as global chemical regulations and renewable energy projects.
  • Work to ensure that substantially all managed outside counsel spend is performed under an appropriate alternative fee agreement that measurably incentivizes efficiency and results.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the annual legal budget for outside counsel.
  • Offer as needed support in the development of, and any updates to, environmental related internal policies, procedures and standard work.  

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Juris Doctorate
  • Admitted to the Connecticut Bar, and/ or Authorized House Counsel
  • Minimum (8) years of experience in related areas of work, specifically (5) years in environmental law in either private or government practices.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the company’s immigration sponsorship now or in the future. The company will not offer immigration sponsorship for this position. The company will not seek an export authorization for this role

The salary range for this role is 147,000 USD - 295,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
