Job Description:

The Role

The Associate Director, Scientific Advisor is a key member of the US Medical Affairs team responsible for leading the co-creation and implementation of strategic scientific content that supports Moderna’s licensed vaccines and pipeline therapies. This role serves as a content strategist, training development partner, and scientific engagement lead across field medical, commercial, and scientific platforms. Reporting to the Sr Director of Scientific Leadership, this individual will shape content strategy and support educational initiatives aligned to field engagement goals.

Here’s What You’ll Do

  • Contribute strategic input and implementation of US scientific communication plans in alignment with Medical Affairs and brand strategy.

  • Serve as the primary content lead for US FMA (Field Medical Affairs) custom content including decks, visuals, and tools aligned with segmentation and customer needs.

  • Contribute to development and execution of internal training materials for US field medical, including new hire onboarding, product refreshers, and FME skill-building curricula.

  • Represent Medical Affairs in scientific content planning for congresses and webinars, including event preparation, messaging strategy, and post-conference outputs.

  • Author and review high-impact scientific materials, including slide decks, narrative frameworks, and educational tools for HCP-facing use.

  • Stay current on scientific literature, pipeline developments, and competitive intelligence to inform content strategy and field enablement.

  • Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure all materials are medically accurate, strategically aligned, and compliant with internal policies and external regulations.

  • Serve as point-of-contact for external Scientific Advisory Council, synthesizing feedback into tactical recommendations.

  • Provide guidance to cross-functional teams during content development and product launch planning.

  • Ensure materials are developed with flexibility for omnichannel use (field, webinar, congress, on-demand access).

 

Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications)

  • MSc, MPH, or equivalent advanced degree in life sciences.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry, with at least 2 years in Medical Affairs scientific communications.

  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional scientific content initiatives in support of field medical teams.

 

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Strong scientific writing, storytelling, and strategic thinking capabilities.

  • Proven experience developing and executing training content for field teams.

  • Excellent communication skills with ability to engage KOLs and internal stakeholders.

  • Familiarity with vaccines, immunology, or infectious disease areas is a plus.

  • Strong understanding of medical compliance and regulatory guidelines.

  • Proficiency in virtual presentation tools and content platforms.
