Job Description:

University College is seeking an Assistant Director, TRIO Upward Bound for their team! This person will join a dynamic program that supports campus-wide recruitment, retention, accreditation, and student skill-building.

In this role, you will focus on leading and supporting the staff in the TRIO Upward Bound program with development, preparation, promotion and delivery of a programs, events, and services to support the educational experience and retention of current or prospective students; assist with monitoring the goals of, and collecting data to support the assessment of these programs; and develop and maintain effective working relationships with relevant staff both internal and external to TRIO and the University.

You will also supervise professional staff, manage the overall TRIO Upward Bound program, and support strategic planning and direction.

Additionally, this role will have the opportunity to:

  • Monitor the academic, career and personal goals/needs of students and assist with providing guidance to students during one-on-one advising sessions.
  • Lead the Upward Bound grant writing for the new grant cycle in collaboration with the UB team.
  • Lead the Upward Bound Summer Academy, and Bridge and Summer Melt components, including recruiting, hiring, and providing functional supervision of student employees.
  • Lead student recruiting efforts in assigned target school/s, assuring that minimum number of participants are served by established timelines. Includes participating in public relations events at the school and in the community, such as back-to-school nights, parent-teacher conferences, graduation ceremonies, community events, etc.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; or an equivalent combination of education and experience (equivalent experience: at least four additional years of experience if no higher education degree)
  • Typically 1-3 years' experience related to working with high school or college students in the areas of academic success, college preparation, career exploration, or personal development.
  • Experience creating, executing, and evaluating educational programs.

Demonstrates a working proficiency level in the following competencies:

  • Knowledge of and ability to teach basic principles of academic success/study skills, college preparation, career exploration, personal development.
  • Knowledge of adolescent development and ability to work effectively and respectfully with students ages 14-18.
  • Positive role model to participants (i.e. boundary setting, emotional regulation, exhibiting positive/healthy habits to students, etc.)
  • Ability to document services in a detailed and timely manner.
  • Ability to create and maintain positive partnerships with campus and community groups.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to travel daily to provide services in target schools, transportation is provided.
  • Driver's License and ability to pass UI Fleet Services driving record check.
  • Ability to pass criminal background check.
  • Ability to successfully complete Working with Youth/Minors on Campus training and Harassment Prevention training prior to work with students.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree or active pursuit of master's degree preferred.
  • Demonstrates a WORKING proficiency level in:
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Experience as a participant or staff member of a TRIO program.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations for TRIO Upward Bound program and ability to apply them when making decisions.
  • Experience with writing grants.
  • Experience with budget management.

Compensation: $53,000 - $58,000 with Full Benefits

Work Modality: This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.
