Job Description:
Madison College is seeking a full-time Academic Advisor to work on a TRIO grant serving first-generation and low-income students and students with disabilities in STEM programs. This role offers STEM-focused comprehensive, holistic, individualized academic, retention, career, and transfer advising services to TRIO STEM students to increase retention, transfer, and graduation rates of program students. The Academic Advisor will assist students with creating personalized education plans aligned with their educational, career, and life goals. This position includes supporting recruitment efforts via classroom presentations and coordinates and implements student-facing events such as workshops and orientations to promote program engagement and increase student preparedness. The Academic Advisor provides support services in the manner consistent with college policies, grant objectives, and standards of the U. S. Department of Education guidelines for Student Support Services, and federal regulations governing grant programs.
TRIO is housed in the Retention Initiatives and Student Engagement (RISE) programs office, which supports students' academic and professional success by providing advising, coaching, mentoring, tutoring, and various engagement opportunities.
Position Details:

Schedule: This is a full-time, salaried position scheduled 40 hours per week, 52 weeks out of the year, with core hours Monday through Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm. Some evening coverage required along with the occasional weekend for special events. Currently this position works three days in office and two days remote (subject to change per college policy).

Location: This position works primarily at our Truax campus with the possibility of some hours at the Goodman Suth Campus.

Expected Progression: This position includes an expected progression plan. Upon meeting departmental criteria, you will be eligible to receive a $1.00 per hour increase.

End Date: This position is a five-year grant funded position through September 30, 2030, with expectation that it will renew based on continued funding.

Accountabilities:

Provides individualized academic, career and transfer advising to support student goal setting, course selection and long-term educational planning.

Delivers case management and retention support through proactive monitoring, early intervention and referrals to internal and external resources to address barriers to student success.

Coordinates and implements student-facing events, workshops and orientations to promote program engagement and increase student preparedness.

Supports recruitment and enrollment efforts by delivering outreach presentations, participating in placement and onboarding processes and guiding students through institutional procedures.

Collaborates with internal departments and external partners to improve access, resolve student concerns and ensure alignment with institutional and partner requirements.

Leads or contributes to cross-functional projects and continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen student support practices and enhance advising effectiveness.

Maintains accurate documentation and reporting to support grant compliance, institutional accountability and informed decision-making.

Exercises independent judgment to resolve complex advising scenarios and uphold policies while adapting to diverse student needs and learning environments.

Performs other related duties within the scope of the position as required for the efficient operation of the division and to support institutional objectives.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of academic advising principles, including course planning, transfer pathways and student support strategies.

Knowledge of institutional policies, student services and external support systems that impact student enrollment, persistence and success.

Minimum Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor degree required. An Associate degree may be considered with equivalent additional work experience.
Experience:
0-2+ years of relevant, professional, work experience.
