Job Description:

As the Vice President of Engineering and Applications, you will define and execute the technology strategy that drives our insurance platforms, enhances digital experiences for customers and agents, and enables data-driven decision-making.

You will lead a high-performing team of engineering leaders, architects, and developers, with a focus on platform modernization, multi-tenant innovation, and seamless delivery. Your leadership will ensure solutions are secure, scalable, and deliver exceptional value and user experience. This role supports a multi-client, service-provider model designed to flexibly serve multiple mutual P&C insurance companies.

In addition, you will play a key role in advancing our digital transformation efforts, including large-scale data conversions and cloud migrations-initiatives that are critical to our long-term success.

This position reports directly to the Chief Information and Technology Officer and is instrumental in shaping the future of our technology landscape.

Accountabilities:

  • Lead from the front: Set and embody a culture of engineering excellence, hands-on leadership, and accountability.
  • Hands-on technical leadership across business applications, architecture, engineering, DevOps, and delivery practices.
  • Technology and Platform Strategy:
  • Advance the adoption of core insurance platforms (e.g., Guidewire, Duckcreek, Agent Portals) and cutting-edge GenAI capabilities.
  • Drive platform modernization leveraging React, NoSQL, Microservices, and cloud-native SaaS architectures.
  • Lead enterprise-scale digital transformation initiatives, including legacy modernization and new digital product development.
  • Build and scale multi-tenant platforms to enable servicing multiple client service business units efficiently.
  • Champion CI/CD automation, DevOps culture, modular architecture, and scalable design principles.
  • Financial Accountability and Cost Optimization:
  • Own the engineering and applications budget with full accountability for delivering cost-effective, high-value solutions.
  • Optimize resource utilization, vendor management, and technology investments to ensure scalability without compromising financial discipline.
  • Multi-Client Service Model Leadership:
  • Architect and manage application platforms that serve multiple mutual insurance companies in a multi-tenant or shared services environment.
  • Design solutions that are configurable and adaptable across different client organizations without significant rework.
  • Ensure service-level agreements (SLAs), data security, client-specific compliance needs, and client satisfaction are consistently met or exceeded.
  • Data Conversion and Migration Leadership:
  • Manage complex data conversions, system migrations, and platform integrations ensuring data integrity, security, and business continuity.
  • Data Security and Privacy by Design:
  • Integrate data security, privacy protection, and compliance frameworks into all phases of application development and platform operations.
  • Business Collaboration:
  • Act as a trusted technology partner to Underwriting, Claims, Finance, and other business functions.
  • Translate business needs into pragmatic, scalable technology solutions aligned to digital goals.
  • End-to-End Delivery Accountability:
  • Oversee meticulous planning, agile execution, and delivery of complex initiatives, ensuring business outcomes and technology excellence.
  • End-User and Agent Experience Focus:
  • Champion seamless digital experiences and self-service capabilities for agents, customers, and employees.
  • Team Leadership and Talent Development:
  • Build and mentor a high-performing, manager-of-managers organization.
  • Establish clear career paths, promote engineering best practices, and cultivate a strong talent pipeline.

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of progressive technology leadership experience, with significant time spent in P&C insurance, modern technology, Cloud and SaaS solutions or related services.
  • Demonstrated success leading large-scale engineering teams in delivering modern, cloud-native, multi-tenant applications.
  • Experience operating within a multi-client, service provider model - designing, building, and managing platforms that can flexibly support multiple mutual P&C insurance companies.
  • Deep expertise driving platform modernization, digital transformation, and complex data conversions.
  • Proven expertise with managing multiple core insurance platforms, as well as digital agent/customer-facing solutions.
  • Proven track record in managing cost accountability, optimizing engineering operations for efficiency, and delivering solutions that are both high-performing and cost-effective.
  • Strong foundation in Data Security, Privacy Compliance, and regulatory frameworks (NIST CSF, NYDFS, CCPA, HIPAA where applicable).
  • Deep proficiency in CI/CD pipelines, DevOps, microservices architecture, and modern modular system design.
  • Successful track record of improving user experiences and building self-service digital channels.
  • Experience operating effectively in fast-paced, multi-priority environments, delivering transformational outcomes.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field required; Master's degree or MBA preferred.
  • Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure) or Agile/Scrum certifications are a plus.

Compensation:
