About the Department

About this Position
The Commerce Director's Office provides centralized finance, budget, legal, IT and HR services and resources for the Department Divisions and attached boards.
This position is responsible for managing Commerce's database of tourism-related sites, services and events and evaluating overall effectiveness. In addition, this position manages the regular survey and update of records for businesses, government agencies and other tourism related entities. The work involves:
- Project Management - assessing agency needs, developing proposals, and working with contractors to ensure effective and efficient implementation.
- System Design - work collaboratively with contracted DBAs in the development and field testing of screens and forms.
- Survey Process - support the collection of survey information and supervise data entry into the Tourism database.
- Customer Service - respond to questions and/or concerns related to database entries.
- Strategy Planning - collaborate with Commerce IT to assess database system capabilities and limitations and provide feedback regarding upgrades and strategies to ensure ongoing system effectiveness.
What are we looking for?
Education and Experience:
- A bachelor's degree in Marketing, Website Design/Maintenance, Information Systems Management, or another related field
- At least one year of related work experience, including customer service, data collection, and/or administrative support
- Alternate combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Competencies:
Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of computer system, data maintenance, and reporting
- Website development, including content management systems, digital asset management systems, website analytics software, basic HTML 5 & CSS 3, website design, graphic design
- Customer service standards
- Principles and practices of marketing, public relations, basic English formatting and editing, administrative office support, and records management
- General knowledge of the State of Montana, including its geography, history, and attractions
Ability to:
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Work with a large volume of data on a computer systemmar
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with department staff, customers, and the general public
- Work independently
