Position Summary
Tidal Basin is seeking experienced Team Leads to oversee teams of Claims Reviewers and Quality Control Specialists supporting FEMA’s Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Claims Office. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise in disaster recovery or insurance claims, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, claimant-focused service in accordance with federal regulations and program guidance.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise and support a team of approximately 10 Claims Reviewers and Quality Control Specialists.
- Monitor team performance, assign workloads, and ensure compliance with FEMA standards and timelines.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship on claims processing, documentation, and policy interpretation.
- Review and approve claims recommendations and quality control findings prior to submission to FEMA.
- Coordinate with FEMA staff, Site Inspectors, Subject Matter Experts, and Attorney Liaisons to resolve complex claims issues.
- Maintain accurate records, trackers, and reports related to team activities and claim status.
- Ensure adherence to conflict-of-interest policies and maintain confidentiality of claimant information.
- Support training, onboarding, and continuous improvement initiatives for team members.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of disaster recovery programs, insurance adjusting, or property loss estimation.
- Ability to interpret and apply complex federal policy language, including statutes, regulations, and program guidance.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in claims management software, databases, and Microsoft Office tools.
- Must be eligible for and maintain a favorable Entry-on-Duty (EOD) clearance.
- Must be able to manage team workloads, provide technical advisement, and escalate personnel issues as needed.
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
- Minimum of 10 years of combined experience in claims/case processing roles, including:
- Customer service
- Data entry
- Reviewing and evaluating disaster-related losses
- Demonstrated experience in team leadership, personnel management, and performance monitoring.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on FEMA contracts or similar federal disaster recovery programs.
- Familiarity with 44 CFR Part 296 and the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fire Assistance Act.
- NFIP certification or experience with flood/fire claims.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
Work Environment
- In order to meet Federal badging requirements, individuals must be able to pass an acceptable background inquiry.
- Hybrid work model with on-site presence required in Santa Fe, NM and surrounding counties as needed.
- May involve travel to claimant locations for coordination or support.
- Fast-paced, mission-driven environment with high expectations for accuracy and timeliness.
