Primary Functions:

As a key member on the Americas Tax Team, you will take the lead in:

  • Managing and advising on Chilean tax matters, including compliance, provisions, and research
  • Providing tax advisory services for Canada and/or the US, focusing on complex tax issues and legislative changes
  • Identifying tax risks and compliance gaps, proactively advising on strategies to mitigate risks and ensure alignment with applicable tax laws
  • Overseeing tax authority audits and reviews, managing interactions with tax authorities and external advisors
  • Mentoring and developing other team members, fostering technical expertise and leadership skills to support a positive, growth-focused, and high-performing tax function

Key Responsibilities include:

Chile tax

  • Prepare annual and semi-annual income tax provisions for the Chilean entities under IAS 12, including provision-to-return adjustments and reconciliation of tax general ledger accounts
  • Prepare and/or review of income tax returns for Chilean entities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with local tax laws and filing requirements
  • Conduct detailed research and analysis of Chilean tax legislation, summarizing impacts and communicating findings to stakeholders
  • Monitor proposed and enacted Chilean tax legislation, providing timely advice on potential impacts and strategic responses for the business
  • Identify and assess tax risks and compliance gaps, delivering actionable recommendations to mitigate risks and enhance compliance
  • Partner with the Chilean finance team to support compliance, provision, and advisory activities, fostering effective communication and alignment across functions
  • Collaborate with external tax advisors to support compliance and address complex tax issues

Canada and/or US tax

  • Research and interpret tax legislation, including new or proposed laws, to communicate impacts and recommendations
  • Prepare concise and accurate advice on a variety of tax matters for the tax team and other internal stakeholders
  • Identify and assess tax risks and compliance gaps, delivering actionable recommendations to mitigate risks and enhance compliance
  • Work closely with finance team and external advisors to support the R&D/SR&ED tax incentive programs
  • Work with Mobility and Secretariat with regards to employee and shareholder tax issues
  • Lead and manage interactions with tax authorities during audits and reviews, including preparing and presenting responses, coordinating documentation, and negotiating resolutions

Other

  • Identify and action process improvements, including continuous development of automation using excel and other tools
  • Assist with leading and mentoring other team members, fostering the development of their technical expertise and soft skills through knowledge sharing, coaching, and feedback
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning, empowering other team members to take ownership of tasks and advance their capabilities

Skills, competencies, and qualifications:

  • CPA designation is required
  • Undergraduate degree in accounting or related field is required
  • Master's degree in accounting, taxation, or related field is an asset
  • 10+ years' experience with Canada and/or US taxes, including large multinational corporate tax environment and/or at Big 4 firms or equivalent
  • Business proficiency in Spanish, with a demonstrated ability to discuss accounting and tax matters with native speakers
  • Demonstrated expertise in preparing and reviewing income tax provisions in compliance with IAS 12
  • Proficient excel skills, and a demonstrated ability to continuously develop excel skills independently
  • Experience with Chilean tax is an asset
  • Proven ability to manage projects independently, including defining objectives, planning, and executing tasks with minimal oversight
  • Proactive with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and mentoring team members

Salary Ranges between 115,000.00 to 150,000.00 depending on location and experience
