About the Role
Title: Staff Product Designer - Design Systems
Location: New York United States
Job Description:
We're looking for a Staff Product Designer to lead the design evolution of DRUIDS, Datadog's design system. You'll work at the intersection of design and engineering, defining patterns, design tooling, and visual excellence that enable hundreds of designers and engineers to build cohesive, performant experiences at scale.
This role sits at the intersection of design and engineering. You'll partner with product managers, engineers, and fellow designers to uncover pain points, align stakeholders, and scale design practices. Your work will help build the stable trusted layer, DRUIDS, and build the internal tools to help design teams design at scale, ship with confidence, and contribute meaningfully to a system that supports one of the most technically sophisticated design ecosystems in SaaS.
At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships and collaboration it builds and the creativity it brings to the table. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our Datadogs can create a work-life harmony that best fits them.
What You'll Do:
- Architecting the future of the DRUIDS design system to support Datadog's global scale, AI tooling, accessibility, and product diversity.
- Design, prototype, and document new patterns that drive the Datadog visual language forward at scale.
- Establishing reusable design patterns and contributing to DRUIDS documentation
- Work closely with the Design Systems engineering team to ensure high-quality implementation and code quality
- Drive cross-functional initiatives that modernize the design system's tooling, infrastructure, and AI-assisted workflows.
- Communicate your design work and the support for your design decisions internally to your product team and the whole company.
- Take a strategic role in shaping product direction, advocating for design as a multiplier of engineering velocity and organizational alignment.
- Advocate for systems thinking and champion design quality across the organization
Who You Are:
- You have 10+ years of experience in product design with at least 3+ of those years focused on design systems or design infrastructure
- Your portfolio includes a proven track record of design system contribution or shipping system-level work (components, libraries, or scalable UX patterns)
- You're fluent in Figma component architecture, design tokens, and how design intersects with front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, React, AI-first tooling).
- You are an excellent visual and written communicator, able to clearly communicate your design work and the support for your design decisions
- You have experience with advanced prototyping tools (e.g. Figma, Cursor, etc)
- You understand systems thinking and component-based design patterns
- You give and receive feedback well, supporting and improving the work of your colleagues as well as your own
Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That's okay. If you're passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply.
Benefits and Growth:
- New hire stock equity (RSUs) and employee stock purchase plan (ESPP)
- Continuous professional development, product training, and career pathing
- Intradepartmental mentor and buddy program for in-house networking
- An inclusive company culture, ability to join our Community Guilds (Datadog employee resource groups)
- Access to Inclusion Talks, our internal panel discussions
- Free, global mental health benefits for employees and dependents age 6+
- Competitive global benefits
Benefits and Growth listed above may vary based on the country of your employment and the nature of your employment with Datadog.
