Men’s Journal is a premier men’s lifestyle brand founded in 1992. We're hiring a well-connected, highly motivated Spirits Editor to join our team. Our ideal candidate has a strong foothold in the industry, and a finger on the pulse of major news and events; maintains strong connections with distillers, mixologists, and major players in the scene; and is comfortable assigning and top-editing a steady stream of daily content, from new bottle releases to best-of lists to longer features. Candidates should be able to conceive and execute packages across digital, print, and social, including sponsored campaigns. A background in editing timely, relevant, factually sourced copy, as well as an eye for what topics and storytelling will resonate most with an endemic audience is a must.
What You’ll Do:

Work under the direction of the Editor-in-Chief to write, assign, and top edit spirits content with a focus on whiskey.

Pitch, plan, and help coordinate daily, weekly, and monthly coverage—including a fall whiskey special interest publication (SIP).

Establish and maintain editorial franchises.

Write relevant news coverage, essays, or profiles as needed.

Brainstorm and assign Discover- and SEO-targeted stories.

Cultivate a stable of freelance writers.

Helm our Whiskey Wednesday newsletter with a bespoke Letter From the Editor.

Develop and hone site voice, story packaging, and column ideas.

Provide editorial support for burgeoning Men’s Journal Whiskey Shop and subscription model.
What You’ll Bring:

5-7 years’ experience working in a fast-paced digital environment.

Strong connections and reputation in the spirits industry, including a breadth of knowledge among different types of spirits (e.g. whiskey, mezcal, tequila, beer, etc.).

Proven track record of traffic growth.

Experience writing, assigning, and top-editing spirits content, including SEO-optimized evergreens and op-eds for Discover.

Deep knowledge of digital content best practices, plus analytical and research tools such as Google Analytics, atarget="_blank" hrefs, etc.

Excellent communication, organization, leadership, and time-management skills.

Collaborative and team-oriented.

Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field.
