Job Description:

Squarespace is looking for a Senior Software Engineer on the Core Web Platform team within the Building Blocks Platform Group. You will collaborate with experienced engineers to design our web performance platform, ensuring adherence to Core Web standards. You will focus on developing foundational features that guarantee our components meet the highest standards of accessibility, speed, efficiency, and reliability. You will help enhance user experience and empowering teams to build scalable and maintainable digital products at scale. You will report to an Engineering Team Manager and will work from our headquarters in NYC (hybrid 2-3 days per week in office).

 

You'll Get To…

 

• Lead Platform Development: Guide the creation of web solutions, including the Optimization Platform.


• Conduct Audits: Perform performance audits for products and components, identifying improvements and ensuring compliance.


• Build Foundational Tools: Design platform features, and APIs that support web performance, including primary components for the Optimization Platform.


• Promote Best Practices: Create tools and frameworks to help product teams implement performance best practices, providing technical guidance.


• Automate Quality: Implement automated performance testing in CI/CD pipelines.


• Mentor & Share: Act as a subject matter expert, mentoring engineers and contributing to knowledge sharing.


• Optimize Performance: Troubleshoot and resolve complex web performance issues.


• Influence Architecture: Contribute to the technical direction of the Core Web Platform.

 

Who We're Looking For

• Experience: 5-7 years in full stack software development, with focus on platform solutions.


• Technical Expertise: Knowledge of web performance standards, proficient in modern programming languages (e.g., JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Java) and frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Vue.js), with an understanding of both front-end and back-end development.


• Platform Design: Background in designing scalable and performant full stack platforms.


• Tools: Experience with performance profiling/monitoring tools (e.g., WebPageTest, Lighthouse), Real User Monitoring (RUM) platforms, and optimization tools.


• Web Fundamentals: In-depth knowledge of HTML, CSS, DOM, browser internals, and HTTP protocols.


• CI/CD: Experience integrating performance testing into CI/CD pipelines.


• Mentorship: Ability to educate and empower others on web performance.


• Cloud & Modern Stacks: Experience with GCP or other cloud platforms is desirable.

Cash Compensation Range: $128,500 - $207,000 USD

 

The base salary for this position will vary based on job-related criteria including relevant skills, experience, and location, among other factors.

 

In addition to the cash compensation above (which includes base salary and, where applicable for eligible roles, may include on-target commissions or overtime pay), Squarespace employees are eligible to be granted an option to purchase our common stock.
