Title: Senior Software Engineer

Job Description:

Collaborate with stakeholders from business, engineering, research, design, and other teams to understand system constraints, technology capabilities, business requirements, information architecture, workflows, processes surrounding the user experience, and design system capabilities.

  • Telecommuting permitted: work may be performed within normal commuting distance from the Red Hat, Inc. office in Boston, MA.

What You Will Do:

  • Refine and prioritize system requirements, create designs based on user needs, and work with engineering to oversee implementation, ensuring that design deliverables align with both business and user goals, including encompassing an end-to-end user experience that spans product onboarding, usage, and support.
  • Work with the UX research team to determine effective methods for tracking user interactions, measuring engagement, and incorporating feedback.
  • Participate in planning user research to inform or validate design decisions, ensuring that both qualitative and quantitative insights are used to improve and refine designs.
  • Create mockups, wireframes, and other design deliverables, and prepare and present numerous design iterations.
  • Partner with customer-facing teams within Red Hat to obtain direct feedback from developers and other users of the system, recommending enhancements to improve usability and align with user goals and expectations.
  • Build strong relationships with developers to support the successful implementation of designs, and actively participate in PatternFly (our community-built design system) as both a user and contributor.
  • Identify usability issues, make solid recommendations for improvements, and provide feedback and mentorship to fellow designers to foster a collaborative and innovative design environment.

What You Will Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Interaction Design or a related field and three (3) years of experience in job offered or related role.
  • Must have three (3) years of experience with: creating user-centered designs, including developing wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes using tools like Figma or Sketch, and adapting to open-source environments; contributing to or utilizing design systems, including understanding design system principles, guidelines, and component libraries; UX research methodologies (qualitative and quantitative), including user interviews, usability testing, and A/B testing, with tools like Hotjar for tracking user interactions and engagement; developing and refining information architecture, including sitemaps and user flows, to enhance the organization and accessibility of content; presenting design concepts, processes, and iterations to stakeholders, including creating presentations and explaining design decisions to both technical and non-technical audiences; and adapting designs and approaches based on changing requirements or feedback, demonstrating flexibility and problem-solving abilities in a dynamic environment.
  • Must have two (2) years of experience with: collaboration and project management tools to manage design tasks, track progress, and work with cross-functional teams; creating and conducting usability tests on prototypes, and using feedback to iterate and improve designs; HTML, CSS, and JavaScript basics to effectively communicate with developers and understand technical constraints and possibilities; and using data to inform design decisions, including interpreting user feedback, analyzing engagement metrics, and applying insights to enhance user experience.

The salary range for this position is $133,650 - $220,680. Actual offer will be based on your qualifications.

Pay Transparency

Red Hat determines compensation based on several factors including but not limited to job location, experience, applicable skills and training, external market value, and internal pay equity. Annual salary is one component of Red Hat's compensation package. This position may also be eligible for bonus, commission, and/or equity. For positions with Remote-US locations, the actual salary range for the position may differ based on location but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience.
