Location: MI-JACKSON

Consumers Energy is Michigan’s largest energy provider, providing natural gas and/or electricity to 6.8 million of the state’s 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties. Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday assigned to the One Energy Plaza headquarter located in Jackson, MI.  The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).

 

 

SR PRODUCT DESIGNER 

 

Location: This position is onsite minimally 3 days a week at One Energy Plaza located in Jackson, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).   

  • The interview process for this position will consist of both a panel interview as well as technical interview/assessment

The Senior Product Designer owns the creation and development of user-centered designs that enhance the overall user experience. This role involves a mastery of creative, technical, and problem-solving skills to design products that are user-friendly, visually appealing, and functional. The Senior Product Designer is accountable for gaining buy-in and adoption, from stakeholders and users, by crafting easy, enjoyable, and effective experiences that satisfy business needs.  Collaboration with software engineers and product managers is essential to ensure the feasibility and implementation of design concepts.  

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Lead the creation and development of wireframes, prototypes, journey maps, task flows and personas that inform product direction. Lead design reviews and other ceremonies while also championing best practices across teams. 

  • Develop an understanding of and serve as the advocate for the end user, providing education and definition for the fuller team. 

  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative user research (interviews, surveys, usability tests). Analyze insights to inform design decisions and improve user adoption. 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional team and stakeholders, to drive user adoption and align on user experiences that effectively satisfy business goals and ensure technical feasibility and alignment with the product vision. 

  • Mentor junior designers or leading design initiatives. Foster a collaborative design culture with the full product team. 

  • Define and drive the product design strategy. Own end-to-end design processes for complex features or products. 

  • Advocate for user accessibility considerations. 

  • Define and document user experience patterns, behavioral patterns, and interaction models to ensure consistency. 

  • Other duties as assigned or may be necessary.

  • Able to define user flows, interaction patterns, and complete product experiences that align with user needs.  
     

Education/Experience 

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Human Computer Interaction, Information Architecture or Library Science, Computer Science, or a related field and 4+ years of experience in product design field or similar, with experience in a lead design role. 

  • [OR] Associate’s degree in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Human Computer Interaction, Information Architecture or Library Science, Computer Science, or a related field and 6+ years of experience in product design field or similar, with experience in a lead design role. 
  • [OR] high school diploma and 8+ years of experience in product design field or similar, with experience in a lead design role.
