Primary Purpose:
Designs, develops, and improves utility scale battery storage and renewable power generation plants and/or maintains energy storage and generation facilities and mechanical equipment in safe, efficient and economical working conditions through the direction or performance of maintenance activities. Participates in and performs engineering studies relating to installation, calibration, maintenance, control, and repair of renewable/alternative power generation instrumentation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides and reviews technical studies and guidance on energy storage technologies in terms cost, reliability, applicability, efficiency, and design.
- Continuously seeks ways to improve processes and performance in renewable energy projects.
- Oversees Electrical Design and ensures that all storage and generation projects comply with local, state, and federal codes and regulations.
- Stays updated on the latest technologies, best practices, and innovations in battery energy storage and various renewable energy concepts and apply them to projects.
- Develops conceptual designs and technical specifications for Energy Storage and renewable energy projects.
- Develop technical documentation for request for proposals and utility solicitations for energy storage and renewable energy projects.
- administer maintenance service agreements with contracted maintenance personnel.
- Performs engineering analyses for necessary construction modifications and oversee design changes.
- Interfaces with equipment vendors to research and confirm equipment applicability to project scope and schedule.
- Leads and supports project development efforts and contracting for solar and battery storage projects.
- Leads outage management, facility maintenance and capital improvements.
- Meets with construction and/or maintenance personnel in the field to help construction or maintenance activities as needed throughout San Diego County, Southern Orange County and Imperial County.
- Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or Professional Engineer (PE) certification in addition to five (5) years of engineering experience or an Advanced degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- 8 years related engineering experience.
- Power System Engineering - A subfield of electrical engineering that deals with the generation, transmission, distribution, and utilization of electric power, and the electrical apparatus connected to such systems.
- Energy Operations Management - Overseeing the proactive, organized and systematic management of energy use in a building or generation facility.
- Maintenance Management - Management of activities such as repair work, servicing, replacing, inspecting and electrical testing.
- Energy Distribution Systems Installation - Installing systems for distributing energy, such as electrical power, from sources to end-users efficiently and safely.
- Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Management - The systematic approach to maintain health and safety at occupation and protect the environment.
- System Protection Engineering – Understanding how various system protection devices function, operate, and are designed/ configured and how to perform system protection coordination studies
- Fault Analysis - The determination of short-circuit currents that result from different fault phenomena, the estimation of fault locations, the identification of under-rated equipment in electric power systems and the sizing of various system components.
- Systems Performance Monitoring - Measuring the performance of a system in real time to judicate performance and in order to determine problems and other factors that may cause problems in the future.
- Power System Analysis - Performing calculations and simulations to verify that power systems, including the system components, are correctly specified to perform as intended, withstand expected stress and are protected against failures. I
- Electrical Design – Can Read and create electrical drawings/schematics, run ampacity calcs, Size cable, spec/size equipment that meets NEC and other various utility standards.
- Regulatory Compliance - Ensuring an organization's adherence to laws, regulations, guidelines and specifications relevant to its business processes.
- Generation Interconnection – Familiarity with the various processes associate with interconnecting new generation and storage facilities on the CAISO controlled grid (transmission and distribution)
- Contractor management – Has Previous experience managing large dollar contracts, contractor performance and payments/invoicing performance guarantees, liquidated damages and disputes.
- Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the state of California Required (electrical Strongly preferred).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree and license in Electrical Engineering is strongly preferred.
- Master's Degree in Engineering.
- Generation Control - Experience with Ovation, SEL equipment, PLCs, Linux Operator Systems, and other various Energy management software Systems. is highly desirable.
- Electrical Commissioning Management – management of construction, NETA electrical testing, switching, grounding, Hazard assessment, etc. when commissioning new and repaired equipment.is highly desirable.
