Job Description:
Reporting to the Quality Assurance Division (QAD), Manager of Structural Integrity and under the direct supervision of the Assistant Manager of Structural Integrity, the selected candidate will serve as a Task Leader in the QAD Structural Integrity Unit, providing technical support to the unit’s Project Managers on multiple inspection projects of various structures such as buildings, tunnels, bridges, and waterfronts at all of the Port Authority facilities. This is a full-time position with an expectation of being in the office at least four days per week.
Responsibilities
The selected candidate’s responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Audit consultants performing facility condition surveys and biennial inspection of bridges and tunnels.
- Respond to and evaluate immediate structural deficiencies at all Port Authority facilities.
- Perform technical reviews of condition survey reports and biennial bridge and tunnel inspection reports.
- Review condition survey project proposals.
- Prepare condition survey cost estimates.
- Maintain and update the Structural Integrity Database (SID) for condition survey report data, immediate actions and priority repairs.
- Attend nighttime and/or weekend inspections as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university.
- Five or more years of specific condition inspection and design experience of various types of structures.
- Familiarity with New York State, New Jersey state and FHWA requirements for biennial inspection of bridges and tunnels and familiarity with various other codes including AASHTO specifications.
- Ability to respond to emergency structural situations.
- Possess valid driver’s license.
- Proficiency in written and oral communication skills.
Desired Qualifications
- Professional Engineering license in New York and/or New Jersey.
- Completion of Bridge Inspection Training Courses: NHI 130055 (Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges), NHI 130053 Bridge Inspection Refresher.
- Completion of Tunnel Inspection Training Course: NHI Course No. 130110 (Tunnel Safety Inspection ).
- Experience in bridge and/or building repair design.
- Ability to assess inspection findings, effectively reach a sound conclusion and recommend repairs.
- Be physically fit to climb various types of structures.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels.
- Self-motivated and experienced in working in a team environment.
- Proficient in the use of various computer programs such as Microsoft Office, AUTOCAD, etc.
