Job Description:
Hearst Books is looking for a versatile and creative Senior Editor to shape and develop a slate of lifestyle trade books under Hearst's trusted brands. This role blends editorial expertise with an entrepreneurial spirit, bringing to life books that inspire, inform, and engage readers across a wide range of audiences.You'll be part of an innovative and collaborative publishing team that extends Hearst's storytelling legacy into lifestyle books for adults and kids. From concept to publication, you'll champion projects that balance editorial craft, brand identity, and audience connection-helping every book resonate both creatively and commercially.

Key Responsibilities (What You'll Do)
- Generate ideas for compelling book concepts and book-a-zines that connect with Hearst audiences and expand brand impact.
- Develop and publish approximately 10 lifestyle books annually across categories such as food, home, wellness, fashion, and children's.
- Oversee the editorial process-from acquisition through final production-including editing manuscripts, guiding authors, and collaborating with designers.
- Partner across teams (art directors, marketers, brand stakeholders) to bring projects to life in fresh and innovative ways.
- Manage schedules and priorities to deliver high-quality books on time and aligned with audience needs.
- This role is currently based in the NYC office at least 3 days a week. No remote option.
Qualifications (What We're Looking For)
- Experienced in book development and editing (typically 5+ years in trade publishing or related fields, but equivalent experience considered).
- Skilled at shaping and editing illustrated or visually driven books.
- Strong communicator with exceptional writing and editing skills.
- Highly organized and able to juggle multiple projects with ease.
- A creative thinker and problem solver who thrives at the intersection of editorial craft, business strategy, and audience engagement.
- Collaborative, adaptable, and entrepreneurial-with a passion for connecting readers to stories that matter.

The base salary for this role is between $74,000 - $89,000. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as: transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
This is a position covered under the Writers Guild of America, East, Collective Bargaining Agreement.
