Title: Senior Accountant (Nonprofit - Interim)

Location: Los Altos United States

Job Description:

GHJ Search and Staffing serves as the recruitment division of GHJ, a prominent national accounting and advisory firm. Our team provides qualified Accounting and Finance professionals on a temporary and permanent basis across a broad range of industries. GHJ's relationship with our Global Advisory and Accounting Network provides the resources needed to better understand client's needs, attract a higher caliber of candidates and assess candidate potential.

We are partnering with a highly respected nonprofit organization to identify a Senior Accountant. This role will support the finance team during a time of transition and increased workload, especially around month-end close, audit preparation, and process improvement initiatives. Reporting to the new Director of Finance with a dotted line to the CFO you'll collaborate with an experienced team and provide hands-on support while helping modernize and streamline current practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Manage and support bi-weekly payroll (via TriNet)
  • Handle general ledger accounting and month-end close
  • Assist with audit preparation and supporting schedules
  • Document and update accounting procedures and policies
  • Identify and recommend process improvements
  • Partner with internal staff on knowledge transfer and best practices

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of hands-on accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting (grant funding, functional expense allocations, etc.) or strong corporate accounting
  • Proficiency with Sage Intacct and TriNet
  • Available to start quickly and work with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience with Bill.com, Expensify, or Adaptive Insights
  • Prior experience supporting audit readiness
  • Comfort operating in hybrid/remote nonprofit environments
